A Study and Design of Campus Town by University Campus Expansion : Focusing on Kookmin University and Jeongneung 3dong원문보기

Kookmin University, located in Jeongneung-dong, Seongbuk-gu, has not yet established a relationship with Baebatgol in Jeongneung 3-dong, the neighboring area. From a regional perspective, it is important to foster a mutually beneficial relationship between the university campus and the surrounding region. This relationship is often exemplified by the presence of a vibrant university street, such as Daehak-ro in Hyehwa-dong, or commonly known university streets like those near Hongik University and Konkuk University. Therefore, this study aims to promote the development of a campus town and university road for Kookmin University, enhancing its ties with the local community and fostering opportunities for shared experiences, culture, and commerce. To begin, the study commenced with theoretical considerations of campus master planning and community development. This was followed by an analysis of the target site. The site analysis was conducted from both a macro and micro perspective, encompassing an examination of the current state of the target site's buildings, slopes, natural elements, nearby recreational and pedestrian environments, and local infrastructure. The analysis revealed that the physical characteristics of the target site, situated amidst the hilly terrain formed by Bukhansan Mountain and Bukaksan Mountain, pose challenges due to severe slope conditions. Furthermore, the analysis suggests that the urban environment surrounding the target site exhibits signs of decline, including aging buildings, neglected external surroundings, and stagnant commercial districts. Consequently, establishing a mutually beneficial relationship with the university campus becomes challenging. Based on the analysis, a design strategy was formulated with seven key considerations. First, Creation of campus open spaces for local residents. Second, Enhancement of underdeveloped rest areas along pedestrian routes. Third, Adaptable land slope management. Fourth, Incorporation of university lectures, clubs, and laboratories. Fifth, Prediction of underground campus connections and above-ground expansion to address the absence of a central square at Kookmin University. Sixth, Integration of the new site in Jeongneung 3-dong as the starting point for the university campus town and Kookmin University's version of Daehak-ro. Seventh, Provision of student support facilities, such as commercial and cultural establishments, sports facilities, and start-up support. Additionally, addressing the insufficient parking spaces at the university has been prioritized, with underground parking lots designated as a primary feature of the plan. This study utilized the Jeongneung Regional Comprehensive Development Plan Establishment Service Report as its foundational data. However, it should be noted that further data collection and supplementation are necessary, as there is a limitation in terms of available data from faculty and students who actively use the campus.
