Fe, S, and Fe-S doped anatase TiO2 nanotube arrays are grown anodically through an electrochemical anodization process utilizing an organic electrolyte with lactic acid as an additive. This process yields highly ordered layers of TiO2 nanotubes with a thickness of 12 μm, inner diameter of approximately 90 nm, and outer diameter of approximately 170 nm. Doping of Fe, S, and Fe-S is achieved through a simple wet impregnation method, which substitutes Ti and O sites with Fe and S. This leads to an improvement in rate performance at high discharge C-rates. Dopants in the TiO2 nanotube lattice enhance electrochemical, thermodynamic, and kinetic properties, resulting in remarkable discharge capacities. Additionally, Li-diffusion is increased due to the doping of Fe-S. In addition, when anodic TiO2 nanotubes are grown to have a layer thickness greater than 20 μm, "nanograss" structures typically form on the outermost surface. This occurs due to engraving of the oxide tubes during prolonged exposure to an electrolyte containing F- ions. By using a two-step anodization process in combination with a rubber polymer binder hybridization, freestanding nanotubular layers were successfully obtained. These layers consist of nanograssy surfaces with nano-crystalline particles inside the tubes. When subjected to highly efficient polysulfide trapping and electrolyte perturbation, this nanotubular hybrid membrane demonstrates enhanced performance in Li-S batteries. Additionally, we present a novel method for synthesizing a free-standing, high-aspect-ratio TiO2 nanotubular (TNT) hybrid membrane. The TNT membrane was created by using a two-step electrochemical anodization method. Lactic acid was added to improve the membrane's mechanical properties and growth rate. The membrane was then combined with a rubber polymer binder. Due to the high aspect ratio and structural integrity of the TiO2 nanotubular hybrid membrane, it is an excellent option for enhancing the non-flammable properties of ceramic separators. Flame retardation tests indicate that the TNT hybrid membrane retains its structural integrity even after prolonged exposure to flames. As a result, this hybrid membrane has the potential to enhance battery safety and performance and could be a valuable addition to the field of secondary batteries.
