척수 손상이란 무엇인가? 척수 손상은 교통사고나 산업재해와 같은 사고 혹은 척추 종양이나 척수염 등과 같은 질환으로 인해 척추의 기능이 상실된 것을 말한다. 한편 척수 손상은 비가역성의 변화를 일으켜 심한 기능장애를 남기는 경우가 흔하다.
척수 손상 부위 중 경추,흉추, 요추가 손상될 경우 발생하는 문제점은? 척수 손상은 척추를 구별하는 경추, 흉추, 요추 중에서 어느 부위에 손상을 받느냐에 따라서 장애의 범위와 정도가 달라지게 된다. 경추에서는 상지를 지배하고 있는 신경이 나오는 곳이라서,이곳이 손상되면 상지와 하지의 장애가 나타난다. 흉추나 요추의 손상은 상지의 기능은 정상이지만 하지의 기능이 마비된다. 척수의 장애는 이렇듯 운동의 장애뿐 아니라 감각의 장애도 나타난다.
