Damien은 무엇이라 불리는가? | 그로테스크의 대표 작자 Damien Hirst는 1965년 영국 골드스미스(Gold Smith) 대학출신으로 1988년 그룹전 [Freeze]로 미술계에 데뷔하였다. 미스터 데스, 악마의 자식, 무서운 아이, 컬트 조각가, 엽기의 예술가, 잔혹한 현대 작가 등으로 불리는 Damien는 YBA 작가그룹의 일원으로 활약하였고(Hong, 2011), 현재는 영국 현대 미술을 대표하는 작가 중 한 사람으로 그의 작품 <천년, A Thousand Year, 1990>을 사치가 구입하면서 작가로서 유명세를 타기 시작했다. 1991년 그의 나이 불과 스물일곱에 유서 깊은 ICA(Institute of Contemporary Arts, London)에서 개인전을 가졌고, 1995년에는 런던 테이트갤러리(Tate Gallery)가 매년 최고의 작가에게 수여하는 터너상(Turner prize)을 수상하기도 했다. |
