Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of critical thinking disposition on emotional regulation, perceived stress and communication competence of students in nursing. Methods: A total of 362 students were recruited from two nursing colleges in C and S city. Data were collected by means of self reported questionnaires from December 1 to 15, 2012 and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression with SPSS 18.0. Results: A positive correlation was found between critical thinking disposition and seeking support emotional regulation, active emotional regulation and communication competence. A negative correlation was found between critical thinking disposition and perceived stress. Critical thinking disposition was the strongest predictor of seeking support emotional regulation, active emotional regulation, perceived stress and communication competence. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that to enhance positive emotional regulation and communication competence and to reduce stress for nursing students, it is necessary to develop a teaching program and curriculum for increasing critical thinking disposition.

자료는 본 연구의 목적과 취지를 설명한 후 자발적으로 연구 참여에 동의한 간호대학생들을 대상으로 2012년 12월 1일부터 12월 15일까지 15일간 수집되었고, 400부를 배부하여 수거된 설문 총 367중 불성실한 응답을 한 5부를 제외한 최종 362부를 분석하였다.

데이터처리

∙ 대상자의 일반적 특성에 따라 비판적 사고성향, 감정조절, 지각된 스트레스, 의사소통능력의 차이는 ANOVA로 분석하고, 사후 검증은 Scheffe's test로 확인하였다.
∙ 비판적 사고성향, 감정조절, 지각된 스트레스, 의사소통능력과의 관계는 Pearson's Correlation Coefficient로 확인하였다.
이때 ANOVA로 분석에서 일반적 특성에 따라 유의한 차이를 보인 특성은 공변수로 투입하였다. 일반적 특성 중 범주형 변수인 학년, 지각된 건강상태, 간호학 전공에 대한 만족도는 Dummy 변수로 전환하여 분석하였다. 학년인 경우 1학년을 기준으로 2학년, 3학년, 4학년에 대한 Dummy 변수로 전환하여 분석하였고 최근 지각한 건강상태는 나쁨을 기준으로 건강상태 보통, 건강상태 좋음에 대한 Dummy 변수로 전환하였으며 간호학 전공에 대한 만족도는 불만족을 기준으로 보통, 만족에 대한 Dummy 변수로 전환하여 분석하였다.

이론/모형

감정조절은 감정에 대한 경험과 표현을 상황적 요구에 맞추어 잘 조절하여 환경에 대응하여 내적인 감정상태를 적절 하게 바꾸고 유동적으로 재배열하는 과정으로, 본 연구에서는 Yoon (1999)이 개발한 감정조절양식 도구(Emotional Regulation Style Scale)를 사용하여 측정한 점수를 의미한다. 본 도구는 능동적, 회피분산적, 지지추구적 조절양식의 3개 하위유형, 총 12문항 4점 척도로 구성되어 있다.
비판적 사고성향은 비판적으로 사고하려는 동기, 바람, 태도를 의미하며(Sung, 2010) 본 연구에서는 Yoon (2004)이 개발한 비판적 사고성향 측정도구를 이용하여 측정한 점수를 의미한다. 본 도구는 ‘지적열정/호기심’, ‘신중성’, ‘자신감’, ‘체계성’, ‘지적공정성’, ‘건전한 회의성’, ‘객관성’의 7개 하위 영역, 총 27문항 5점 척도로 구성되어 있고, 점수가 높을수록 비판적 사고성향이 강한 것을 의미한다.
의사소통능력은 자신의 의사를 적절하게 표현하거나 타인과 의견이 일치하지 않을 때 자신의 관점을 명확하게 기술하는 능력으로, 본 연구에서는 Lee 등(2003)이 대학생과 성인을 대상으로 개발한 의사소통능력 도구를 사용하여 측점한 점수를 의미한다. 본 도구는 해석능력, 역할수행능력, 자기제시능력, 목표설정능력, 메시지 전환능력의 총 5개 영역, 총 49문항으로 구성되었다.
지각된 스트레스는 개인이 가진 자원에 부담이 되거나 그 한계를 초과하여 개인의 안녕상태를 위협한다고 평가되는 것으로, 본 연구에서는 Cohen과 Williamson (1988)이 개발한 지각된 스트레스 척도를 Lee (2005)가 번안한 척도를 사용하여 측정한 점수를 의미한다. 본 도구는 총 10문항으로 Likert식 5점 척도 구성되어 있고, 총점이 높을수록 지각된 스트레스 수준이 높음을 의미한다.

성능/효과

감정조절 유형 중 지지추구적 감정조절의 경우 3학년인 경우와 최근 지각한 건강상태가 좋은 경우, 전공에 대해 만족한다는 경우에 통계적으로 유의하게 점수가 높았으며, 능동적 감정조절은 3학년에서, 최근 지각한 건강상태가 좋은 경우에 높게 나타났다. 지지추구적 감정조절과 능동적 감정조절은 스트레스 상황에 대해 긍정적인 생각을 유지하고 도움이 되는 정보를 찾는 방법으로 회피분산적 감정조절에 비해 적극적인 대처이다.
본 연구는 간호대학생들을 대상으로 비판적 사고성향이 감정조절, 지각된 스트레스, 의사소통 능력에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 파악하여 비판적 사고와 관련한 간호교육의 방향설정에 활용하고자 수행하였다. 연구결과 비판적 사고성향이 능동적 및 지지추구적 감정조절, 지각된 스트레스, 의사소통능력에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.
한편, 본 연구에서 비판적 사고성향과 감정조절, 지각된 스트레스, 의사소통능력 간의 상관관계를 살펴본 결과, 비판적 사고성향과 능동적 감정조절, 지지추구적 감정조절, 의사소통 능력 간에는 유의한 양의 상관관계를 보였고, 비판적 사고성향과 지각된 스트레스 간에는 유의한 음의 상관을 보였다. 능동적 감정조절은 자신의 감정을 조절하기 위해 구체적인 문제해결행동을 보이는 양식을 말하는데 비판적 사고성향은 합리적 사고를 통해 문제를 해결하고자 하는 과정이기 때문에 비판적 사고성향이 높을수록 자신의 감정을 능동적으로 조절하려는 경향은 높아질 것이라고 사료된다.

후속연구

첫째, 간호대학생의 감정조절 및 대인관계를 향상시키기 위해 비판적 사고성향의 증진에 중점을 둔 중재를 포함한 교육내용과 교육방법을 개발하는 연구를 제언한다. 둘째, 임상에서 근무하고 있는 간호사를 대상자로 하여 간호대학생과의 비판적 사고성향을 비교하고 간호사의 비판적 사고성향이 감정조절, 지각된 스트레스 및 의사소통능력에 영향을 미치는지 확인하여 간호교육의 연계성 및 효과를 확인하는 연구를 제언한다.
본 연구결과를 바탕으로 다음과 같이 제언 하고자 한다. 첫째, 간호대학생의 감정조절 및 대인관계를 향상시키기 위해 비판적 사고성향의 증진에 중점을 둔 중재를 포함한 교육내용과 교육방법을 개발하는 연구를 제언한다. 둘째, 임상에서 근무하고 있는 간호사를 대상자로 하여 간호대학생과의 비판적 사고성향을 비교하고 간호사의 비판적 사고성향이 감정조절, 지각된 스트레스 및 의사소통능력에 영향을 미치는지 확인하여 간호교육의 연계성 및 효과를 확인하는 연구를 제언한다.
