치매 환자에서의 균형 문제가 중요한 이유는 무엇인가? | 치매환자에서 대표적인 증상은 인지기능의 장애이지만 인지기능의 저하로 인해 활동성이 점차 감소되면서 타인에 대한 신체의존성이 높아지게 되고 결국에는 일상생활 수행능력까지 제한되게 된다(Kim, 2011). 이러한 신체활동 감소를 통한 운동기능의 저하는 치매진행과 관련된 병리적 변화와 밀접한 연관이 있는데(Teri 등, 1998), 감소된 활동수준으로 근위축이 나타나고, 일상생활동작을 수행하는 동안 이동성의 불안정성이 높아져 낙상으로 신체가 손상받기 쉬워진다(Miller와 Butin, 2000). 그러므로 치매환자에서의 균형 문제는 단순히 운동기능의 문제가 아니라 낙상과 골절 등의 일상생활동작 수행능력을 저하시키는 위험성을 높이는 것이므로 그들의 삶을 영위하는데 있어 상당히 중요하다고 할 수 있다. |
