치매의 한 종류인 알츠하이머 병이란 무엇인가? | 치매는 인지기능과 고등정신기능이 감퇴되는 대표적인 기질성 정신장애로 기억장애, 행동장애, 성격변화 등을 수반하는 복합적인 임상증후군이라고 정의할 수 있으며, 크게 알츠하이머병(Alzheimer’s disease)과 혈관성치매(vascular dementia)로 나눌 수 있다. 알츠하이머 병은 아세틸콜린에스테라제(acetylcholinesterase, AChE)의 활성저하로 신경전달물질이 결핍되거나, 베타 아밀로이드 단백질(β-amyloid protein)이 뇌세포에 축적되어 노인반(senile plaque)을 생성시켜 신경세포 자체를 죽이거나 세포간의 신호전달을 차단하면서 서서히 뇌가 위축되어 결국에 뇌세포가 괴사되는 퇴행성 질환이다.3,4 혈관성 치매는 뇌혈관 질환에 의해 뇌혈류의 장애가 생겨 신경세포가 손상되어 치매가 생기는 경우를 말한다. |
