부모존경-자녀존중 부모교육 프로그램은 어떻게 구성되어 있는가? , 2003; Kim, Doh, Hong, & Choi, 2011)이 발표되었으며, 2012년에 첫 부모역할 책 이라는 교재(Doh, 2012)의 발간과 더불어 최종 완성된 증거 기반(evidence-based) 프로그램이다. 이 프로그램은 상호존중적 부모-자녀관계에 초점을 두어 올바른 양육신념, 지식 및 기술을 습득하기 위한 일상적인 자녀양육 관련 내용으로 구성되어 있다. 아동의 건강한 발달을 위해서는 부모가 바람직한 양육역할을 수행할 수 있도록 아동의 발달과정이나 문제행동에 대한 지식을 습득하고, 그에 따른 실제적인 지도방법이나 기술을 훈련함으로써 올바른 양육신념을 형성하는 것이 매우 중요하기 때문이다.
부모의 양육효능감이 높을수록 어떤 경향이 나타나는가? 또 다른 양육관련 변인으로서의 양육효능감은 부모역할에 대한 적응을 돕고 자녀양육과 관련되는 문제를 잘 관리해 나가도록 동기를 주는 인지적 특성으로, 양육의 질을 결정하는 데 중요한 역할을 하는 것으로 알려져 있다(Choi, 2005; Teti & Gelfand, 1991). 특히, 어머니의 높은 양육 효능감은 자녀의 신호를 잘 이해하고 긍정적, 반응적, 온정적이고 비처벌적이거나 자녀를 감독하는 양육행동과 관련이 있어(Desjardin, 2003; Leerkes & Crockenberg, 2002), 양육효능감이 높을수록 부모는 자녀에게 따뜻하고 긍정적인 태도를 취하고 자녀를 유능한 존재로 대하는 경향이 있다. 이러한 측면에서 몇몇 연구들은 부모의 양육행동에 대한 이해와 자녀양육에 대한 개입과 중재에 있어 그 효과를 검증하기 위해 양육효능감의 변화를 측정하기도 한다(Doh et al.
