아동기의 신체적․정신적 건강이 중요한 이유는? 인간이 사회에서 주변 환경과 어울리고, 자신의 역할을 해내며 행복하게 살아갈 수 있는 요인 중 하나는 신체적․정신적 건강이다. 그 중에서도 아동기의 신체적․정신적 건강은 성숙한 인격체로 인생을 살아가기 위한 토대가 되는 요소로서 그 중요성이 아주 크다. 아동기의 정신 건강은 생애를 통한 삶의 질과 직결되어 있으며, 아동이 건강할 때 가정과 사회도 건강할 수 있다는 것은 자명하다.
세계보건기구가 추정한 정신건강 문제를 일으키는 아동․청소년 비율은? 세계보건기구에서 추정한 바에 의하면 세계적으로 20% 의 아동․청소년이 정신건강 문제를 경험하며(World Health Organization, 2012), 우리나라의 아동 정신건강 관련 문제는 점점 심각해지고 있는 상황이다(E. Kang, 2007).
