정신질환자가 일반인에 비해 만성질환과의 동반이환율이 높은 이유는 무엇인가? 정신질환자는 일반인에 비해 신체질환, 특히 만성질환과의 동반이환율이 매우 높다[1]. 그 원인은 항정신병 약물로 인한 체중 증가, 지질수준 증가, 포도당 불내성이 2형 당뇨와 뇌혈관 질환의 위험을 증가시키고, 일반적인 약물 부작용인 진정작용과 정신병의 음성증상이 운동의 능력과 동기를 감소시키며, 흡연, 잘못된 식사습관 및 과다 알코올 섭취 등이 건강을 악화시키기 때문이다[2]. 또한 정신질환의 질병 특성상 자가 관리를 잘 하지 않고, 필요한 의료적 도움을 자발적으로 적절한 시기에 찾지 않아 치료 시작이 늦어지고, 치료를 시작한 후에도 치료준수를 잘 하지 않는 경향이 있다[3].
정신간호란 무엇인가? 그러므로 정신간호는 모든 간호 현장에서 이루어져야 하고, 비정신과 간호사도 정신질환자 간호 및 정신간호의 중요성을 인식하고 환자와의 관계에서 자신을 치료적 도구로 사용할 수 있어야한다. 정신간호란, 병적인 생각에 사로 잡혀 고통을 받거나 정상적이고 건강한 삶을 사는데 지장이 있는 사람들을 도와 정신건강을 최적의 상태로 증진시키려 노력하는 것을 말한다[9].
