천연 항산화제에 관한 연구가 활발한 이유는 무엇인가? | 그러므로 자외선으로부터의 피부 세포 보호 및 광노화 예방을 위해서는 항산화제의 적절한 보충이 꼭 필요하다. 인위적으로 보충이 가능한 항산화제는 크게 합성 항산화제와 천연 항산화제로 나눌 수 있는데, butylated hydroxyanisole(BHA) 및 butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT)과 같은 합성 항산화제들은 가격이 저렴하고 항산화 효과가 뛰어나 널리 이용되고 있지만 암을 유발하는 등 안전성에 대한 우려가 있어 최근에는 비교적 부작용이 적은 천연물로부터 천연 항산화제를 찾아내려는 연구들이 활발히 이루어지고 있다[10-11]. 한편, 식물유래 천연 항산화제 중 페놀성 화합물, 특히 폴리페놀의 일종인 플라보노이드는 지질의 산화 및 ROS로 유발되는 산화적 스트레스를 억제하여 노화를 방지하며 암을 예방하는 것으로 알려져 많은 연구가 수행되고 있으며 식품, 의약품 및 화장품 등의 소재로도 다양하게 활용되고 있다[12-14]. | |
자소엽은 무엇인가? | 자소엽(Perilla frutescens var. acuta)은 차조기 또는 주름소엽이라불리는 인도, 중국, 일본, 베트남 및 한국과 같은 아시아 국가에서 주로 재배되는 꿀풀과의 한해살이풀로서, 예로부터 한방에서는 천식, 기침, 가래, 인후염, 소화불량, 요통, 불면증, 당뇨병 등의 처방에 이용되어 왔다[15-17]. 전통약용 식물로서 광범위한 분야에서 효능을 나타내는 자소엽은 항산화, 항염증 및 항노화 등의 효과가 나타나는 것으로 보고되었다[18-21]. |
