Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationships among emotional intelligence, resilience to burnout, and meaning in life of hospice volunteers. Methods: Data were collected through structured questionnaires from 200 hospice volunteers who were working at hospitals for six months or longer. Data were collected from March 7 to March 31, 2016, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS WIN 22.0. Results: There was a statistically significant correlation between emotional intelligence, resilience to burnout and meaning in life. The significant predictors of hospice volunteers' meaning in life were resilience to burnout(${\beta}=.47$), emotional intelligence(${\beta}=.15$), educational level(college, ${\beta}=.11$), religion(protestant, ${\beta}=.12$; buddhism, ${\beta}=-.15$), and motivation for neighborhood service(${\beta}=.16$). These variables explained meaning in life up to 50.2%. Resilience to burnout was the greatest effective factor on meaning in life. Conclusion: These results suggest a need to develop programs that improve hospice volunteers' emotional intelligence and resilience to burnout. Also, educational level, religion, and service motivation of hospice volunteers should be considered.

따라서 본 연구에서는 호스피스 자원봉사자들을 대상으로 감성지능과 소진탄력성 및 생의 의미 간의 관계를 알아보고, 나아가 생의 의미를 예측할 수 있는 변인을 파악함으로써 호스피스 자원봉사자들의 긍정적인 자아상 정립과 주관적인 삶의 질 향상에 도움을 주고 이들의 심리적, 영적 건강을 증진시킬 수 있는 중재프로그램 개발과 궁극적으로는 호스피스완화의료 서비스의 질 향상에 기초자료를 제공하고자 실시되었다.
대상 데이터
본 연구는 3개 광역시 및 2개 지역도시에 소재한 10개의 400병상 이상 규모의 병원 및 상급종합병원에 개설된 호스피스완화의료병동에서 6개월 이상 호스피스 자원봉사 활동을 수행하고 있는 210명을 편의표집 하였다. 연구대상자 선정기준은 호스피스완화의료기관에서 실시하는 호스피스 자원봉사자 교육프로그램을 이수하고 자원봉사활동 경험이 6개월 이상인 자로서 본 연구에 자발적으로 참여하기를 희망하고 서면으로 동의한 자를 대상으로 하였다.
데이터처리
• 대상자의 감성지능, 소진탄력성 및 생의 의미 간의 관계는 Pearson's correlation coefficient로 분석하였다.
• 대상자의 생의 의미를 예측하는 변인을 파악하기 위해서 Stepwise multiple regression analysis를 실시하였다.

이론/모형
소진탄력성이란 소진 위험에 노출을 예방하거나 이에 적절하게 대응함으로써 업무환경에 성공적으로 적응하며 자신의 경력을 유지, 발전시킬 수 있는 능력의 정도를 의미한다[21]. 본 연구에서는 Choi [21]가 개발한 의료사회복지사 소진탄력성 척도를 Choi [22]가 호스피스 자원봉사자에게 적합하도록 수정한 도구를 개발자로부터 사전 승인을 받고 사용하였다. 본 도구는 전문적 역량(10문항), 성취와 보람(5문항), 일에 대한 가치와 신념(4문항), 좋은 팀워크(4문항), 구조적 뒷받침(4문항), 개인적 자원(4문항)으로 총 31문항으로 구성되어 있다.
생의 의미란 자신이 속한 현실과 관련하여 자신의 삶이 가치가 있고 의미가 있다고 믿고[23], 인간의 참된 본질을 실현해 가는 것을 의미한다[10]. 본 연구에서는 Choi 등[12]이 일반 성인을 대상으로 개발한 생의 의미 도구를 개발자로부터 사전 승인을 받고 사용하였다. 본 도구는 자신에 대한 인식 및 수용(9문항), 창조적 가치실현(15문항), 경험적 가치실현(10문항), 과거와 현재의 삶에 대한 만족감(12문항)으로 총 46문항으로 구성되어 있다.
감성지능은 타인과 자신의 느낌과 감정을 파악하고, 인지하여 생각과 행동으로 나타내어 이러한 정보를 활용하고 이용하는 능력을 의미한다. 본 연구에서는 Wong과 Law [16]가 리더와 조직 구성원을 위해 개발하고(Wong Law Emotional Intelligence Scale, WLEIS), Choi [23]가 간호사를 대상으로 번안 및 수정한 도구를 개발자로부터 사전 승인을 받고 사용하였다. 본 도구는 자기감성 이해(4문항), 타인감성 이해(4문항), 감성 조절(4문항), 감성 활용(4문항)으로 총 16문항으로 구성되어 있다.
