Purpose: The study examined the effects of self-efficacy and intercultural communicative competence on the cultural competence of allied health college students. Methods: The participants were 176 allied health college students. Data collection was conducted from June 12 to 30, 2018. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple linear regression analysis with the SPSS program. Results: The mean self-efficacy score was 3.52;, the mean intercultural communicative competence score was 3.24;, and the mean cultural competence score was 3.26. Cultural competence differed significantly by grade(p=.008), major(p<.001), overseas study exchange(p=.020), foreign language skill(p=.011), domestic multicultural friends (p=.002) and contact with people(p=.026) of general characteristics. Statistically significant positive relationships were observed between self-efficacy(r=.23), intercultural communicative competence(r=.58), and cultural competence. A total of 35.9% of cultural competence was explained by intercultural communicative competence and grade. Conclusion: These results can be used to develop cultural education programs to improve cultural competence, with consideration for intercultural communicative competence and grade levels.

데이터처리

0 프로그램을 이용하여 전산통계 처리하였고, 연구대상자의 일반적 특성, 문화적 역량, 자신감, 문화 간 의사소통능력 정도는 기술통계분석을 통하여 빈도, 백분율, 평균과 표준편차를 구하였고, 일반적 특성에 따른 문화적 역량 수준의 차이는 t-test, ANOVA로 분석하였으며 ANOVA 분석 후 평균비교는 사후검정 Scheffé test로 분석하였다. 연구 대상자의 문화적 역량과 자신감 및 문화 간 의사소통능력 간의 관계는 Pearson correlation coefficients를 산출하였고, 연구대상자의 문화적 역량에 영향을 미치는 요인을 규명하기 위하여 stepwise multiple regression으로 분석하였다.

이론/모형

문화 간 의사소통능력은 Lee [21]가 개발하고, Lee [22]가 수정, 보완한 도구를 사용하여 측정하였다. 도구는 4개 하위 요인, 문화 간 의사소통기술에 관한 능력 10문항, 지식에 관한 능력 10문항, 인식에 관한 능력 10문항, 태도에 관한 능력 10문항, 총 40문항으로 구성되었고, 5점 Likert 척도로 점수가 높을수록 문화 간 의사소통능력이 높은 것을 의미한다.
문화적 역량은 Han과 Chung [19]이 개발한 간호대학생의 문화적 역량 측정 도구를 사용하여 측정하였다. 도구는 5개 하위요인, 문화적 인식 4문항, 민감성 4문항, 경험 4문항, 기술 6문항, 지식 9문항, 총 27문항으로 구성되었고, 5점 Likert 척도로 점수가 높을수록 문화적 역량이 높은 것을 의미한다.
자신감은 Bandura [12]가 개발하고 Ko [20]가 수정, 보완한 도구를 사용하여 측정하였다. 도구는 3개 하위 영역, 내면적 자신감 4문항, 대인관계에서의 자신감 7문항, 수행능력에 대한 자신감 4문항으로 총 15문항으로 구성되었고, 5점 Likert 척도로 점수가 높을수록 자신감이 높은 것을 의미한다.

성능/효과

문화적 역량에 영향을 미치는 요인으로는 문화 간 의사소통능력과 학년으로 확인되었다. 따라서 보건의료 계열 대학생의 교과 및 비교과 과정에서 다문화 관련 교육을 위해서는 자신감과 문화 간 의사소통능력을 향상시킬 수 있고 학생의 전공, 학년을 고려하며 단순히 프로그램에 참여를 유도하기보다는 체계적인 학습이 이루어지도록 교육과정을 개발하여야 하며 경험을 통한 실습 프로그램 위주로 교육프로그램이 운영되어져야 하는 필요성을 확인하게 되었다.

그러나 본 연구는 조사대상이 일개 대학교의 학생으로 제한되어 있어 연구결과를 일반화하는 데 한계가 있다. 본 연구를 토대로 보건의료계열 대학생의 문화적 역량을 강화시키는 교육프로그램을 개발 운영하여 그 효과를 비교분석하는 연구를 진행할 것과 본 연구에서 규명한 영향요인 이외의 변인들을 파악하는 확대 연구를 진행할 것 및 현재 대학생에서 다문화 관련 교육을 제공받고 있는 대학생과 그렇지 않은 대학생의 문화적 역량을 비교하는 연구를 진행할 것을 제언한다.

	다문화 대상자를 상대로 하는 보건의료서비스 제공자가 문화 간 의사소통 능력을 키워야 하는 이유는 무엇인가?	한편, 문화적 역량은 다문화 대상자와의 효과적인 의사소통을 통하여 효율적인 서비스를 제공하고 대상자의 서비스 만족도를 향상시킬 수 있다[14]. 그러나 실제 국내에 거주하는 많은 다문화 대상자는 보건의료서비스를 이용할 때 서비스 제공자와의 의사소통이 가장 큰 어려움이라고 보고하였다[15]. 따라서 보건의료서비스 제공자는 다양한 배경을 가진 다문화 대상자를 이해하고[16], 대상자의 요구에 적합한 질적 돌봄을 제공하기 위해서는 다른 문화적 배경을 가진 대상자와 상호 작용을 할 수 있는 역량인 문화 간 의사소통능력을 갖추고 있어야 한다.
