DIY(do it yourself)운동이 어떤 변화를 일으켰나? | 단순한 취미 생활로 시작된 인류의 DIY(do it yourself)가 과학기술 발전의 성장에 힘입어 비전문가들도 자신들의 창작물을 쉽게 만들 수 있게 되었고, 일부 창작물들은 산업화되고 있다(Anderson, 2012; Dougherty, 2012). 즉, 일반인들이 만든 혁신적인 제품들은 메이커 행사 및 커뮤니티 교류, 크라우드 펀딩 시스템의 도움을 받아 시장에 출시되고 있고, 이와 같은 형태의 메이커 운동은 이미 미국과 유럽을 중심으로 민간에서 활발히 전개되고 있다. 예를 들면, 미국의 경우 온라인 사이트나 메이커 스페이스(maker space)를중심으로 민간 주도의 자율적인 메이커 활동이 활발하게 진행되고 있으며, 일본은 오타쿠 문화와 메이커 운동이 결합하여 새로운 경제 부흥을 위한 원동력으로 각광 받고 있다(Lee, 2017). | |
메이커 교육에서 학습자는 어떻게 발전하는가? | 메이커 교육(maker education)이란, 개인적⋅사회적으로 의미 있는 제품을 능동적으로 설계하고, 제작해 보는 과정을 통해 미래 사회에 요구되는 다양한 핵심 역량을 함양할 수 있는 ICT 기반 만들기 중심의 교육 방법을 의미한다(Halverson & Sheridan, 2014; Martinez & Stager, 2013). 즉, 메이커 교육에서 학습자는 실생활과 관련된 문제 상황 속에서 개인적 혹은 사회적으로 의미 있는 무엇인가를 스스로 만들어 보는 과정을 통해 능동적인 문제해결 역량의 함양이 가능하며 (Kafai, Fields, & Searle, 2014), 특히 새로운 기술을 접목한 만들기를 통해 소프트웨어와 관련된 소양을 함양할 수 있다. 또한 메이커 운동의 핵심적 특징인 공유 문화(Anderson, 2012; Dougherty, 2012)는 메이커 교육 과정에서 아이디어 산출 및 제작 과정의 적극적인 공유와 소통의 과정으로 연결됨에 따라(Thomas, 2014), 학생들은 미래 사회를 살아가는 데 필요한 핵심 역량으로 다양한 문헌에서 공통적으로 언급되고 있는 타인과의 협력(collaboration), 의사소통(communication), 사회적 기술(social and/or cultural skills) 등을 자연스럽게 학습할 수 있는 기회를 제공받을 수 있다(Halverson & Sheridan, 2014; Martinez & Stager, 2013). |
