Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the mediating effect of life attitude on the relationship between appearance satisfaction and self-efficacy of college students. Methods: The data from 223 college students (K-do and -city) highly interested in body and appearance, and were analyzed by three-step mediation analysis and Sobel test. Results: The mediating effect of life attitude was significant on the relationship between appearance satisfaction and self-efficacy. Namely, there was a mediating effect meaning the higher the appearance satisfaction, the more positive the attitude of life and the more self-efficacy. It was simultaneously found that the appearance satisfaction had a direct influence on self-efficacy. Conclusions: In summary, appearance satisfaction and self-efficacy act as internal factors that motivate individual self-development and the smooth adaptation of university life by changing own behavior. Accordingly, an education program should be devised to help college students form their own regular and correct lifestyles, which will also contribute to the improvement of self-efficacy of college student.

제안 방법

남녀 대학생 생활태도의 건강증진 행위 도구는 한국인의 건강증진 행위를 측정하기 위하여 개발 된 건강증진생활 양식 측정도구(Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile, HPLP)를 기준으로 연구한 Kim[18]의 도구를 수정·보완한 것을 사용하였다. 휴식관련 3문항, 활동관련 5문항, 대인관계 4문항, 영양관련 7문항, 인생관 5문항 등 총 24문항으로 구성되며, Likert 5점 척도 사용으로 점수가 높을 수록 생활태도가 긍정적인 것을 의미한다.

대상 데이터

본 연구의 대상자는 K도와 D시에 소재한 대학교 재학 중인 남녀 대학생 중 연구 목적을 이해하고 자의적으로 연구 참여에 동의한 학생이다. 연구 대상자 수는 G*Power 3.
19 프로그램을 이용하여 다중회귀분석에 필요한 표본 수를 산정하였다. 유의 수준 .05 중간 효과크기 .15 검정력 .95를 기준으로 산출한 결과 권고한 표본수 총 150명으로 산출되었으나, 매개효과 분석의 검정력 향상을 위해 표본 크기는 200개 이상이 바람직하다는 연구 결과에 근거하여[14] 본 연구에서는 탈락률을 고려하여 223명의 자료를 수집하였다. 대상자 보호를 위해 기관생명윤리심의위원회(Institutional Review Board; IRB) 승인(승인 번호 : JIRB-2020021001-01-200306)을 받았다.

데이터처리

이론/모형

외모만족도는 Mendelson & White(1993)의 신체적 존중감척도(Body Esteem Scle)를 Kim[15]이 수정 보완한 도구를 사용하여 측정하였다. 외모자신감 13문항, 신체자신감 7문항 등 총 20문항으로 측정하는 Likert 5점 척도 사용하여 점수가 높을수록 외모만족도가 높고 긍정적인 것을 의미한다.
자기효능감은 Sherer et al.[16]가 제작한 자기효능감 척도(self-efficacy scale:SES)를 Hong[17]이 번안한 도구를 사용하였다. 자신감 7문항, 자기조절 효능감 12문항, 과제 난이도 선호 5문항 등 총 24 문항으로 구성되어 있으며, Likert 5점 척도 사용으로 점수가 높을수록 자기효능감이 높고 긍정적인 것을 의미한다.

성능/효과

대학생 자기효능감의 평균은 3.29점으로 Lee et al.[20]의 연구 2.86보다 높은 결과를 보였다. 대상자의 일반적 특성에 따른 자기효능감에 있어서는 Kang & Park[21]의 연구에서와 같이 대부분 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았다.
본 연구는 대학생 외모만족도와 자기효능감의 관계에서 생활태도의 매개효과를 규명하고자 수행하였다. 대학생의 외모만족도 정도를 측정한 결과 문항의 평균 점수는 5점 만점에서 3.39점이었다. 이는 Park & Kim[7]이 측정한 2.
연구결과를 기준으로 교육적 측면에서 고찰을 하면 다음과 같다. 먼저 본 연구에서 외모만족도가 자기효능감에 영향을 미치고 있으며 이 과정에서 생활태도의 매개효과가 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 외모는 지극히 주관적인 것이다.

후속연구

둘째, 대학생의 자기효능감에 영향을 미치는 요인인 외모만족도 및 생활태도 외에 다른 변수들을 찾아내어 그 효과를 검증하는 후속 연구가 이루어 져야 한다.
셋째, 대학생들의 긍정적이고 바람직한 생활태도를 위한 생활보건교육 및 보건상담 프로그램을 개발하고, 이를 학생상담 및 교과과정 프로그램에 적용할 것을 제안한다.
첫째, 대학생의 외모만족도에 대한 긍정적 관심을 높이고 연구결과를 일반화하기 위해 대상자의 수와 범위를 확대하여 반복 연구해야 할 것으로 본다.

Cash 등[4]은 외모불만족 수준이 높을수록 대인관계의 불안 정도가 높다고 보고한 바 있으며, 자기 외모에 대한 자신의 인식과 태도가 개인의 삶에서 타인과의 대인관계에 매우 중요한 역할을 차지한다고 보았다.
	현대 사회에서 외모는 왜 중요한가?	현대 사회에서 외모는 자신의 모습을 표현하는 중요 수단은 물론 자기 개념의 형성과 표현에 중심적 역할을 한다. 인간은 본능적으로 미를 추구하므로 날이 갈수록 외모의 중요성은 커져가고 있으며 무엇보다 외모를 중시하는 이유는 다른 사람에게 메시지를 전달할 때 그 내용보다 먼저 나 자신을 보여주고 서로의 경험과 상황에 따라 상호 작용하기 때문으로 볼 수 있다. 외모는 자신을 나타내는 비언어적 표현방법으로 대인관계에 영향을 미치며[1], 대상에 대한 호의적·비호의적인 평가를 나타냄은 물론 특정한 행동을 유도할 수 있다.
