본 연구의 목적은 청소년의 자아존중감그릿 간의 관계에서 우울, 학업 무기력, 스마트폰 중독 경향성의 매개효과를 규명하는 데에 있다. 본 연구에서는 한국아동·청소년 패널조사 (KCYPS) 2018의 1차년도 자료를 사용하였으며 연구대상은 중학교 1학년에 재학 중인 남학생 1,375명과 여학생 1,166명의 자료이다. 다중매개모형은 SPSS와 PROCESS macro 프로그램을 통하여 분석되었다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 자아존중감과 그릿 간에는 정적상관이 있었고, 자아존중감과 그릿은 우울, 학업 무기력, 스마트폰 중독 경향성과 부적상관이 있었다. 둘째, 자아존중감과 그릿 간의 관계는 우울, 학업 무기력, 스마트폰 중독 경향성에 의해 각각 매개되는 것으로 나타났으며 더 나아가 순차적으로 거쳐서 매개하는 모든 경로도 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 스마트폰 사용이 일상화된 요즘 날의 청소년들이 스마트폰 중독에서 벗어나서 특정 목표에 대한 흥미를 개발하고 노력을 지속하도록 돕기 위한 방안으로 자아존중감과 우울, 학업 무기력을 고려한 교육과 중재가 유용할 수 있음을 시사한다.
