본 연구는 2000년대 이후 전 세계적으로 개인 한 명의 내담자를 두고 상담과 코칭의 융합적 적용에 대한 중요성이 학계와 임상을 중심으로 급속히 진전됨에 따라 가족치료와 가족코칭의 융합적 접근을 시도해 보았다. 이를 위해 국내·외 선행 문헌 연구를 바탕으로 가족치료의 주요 이론 가운데 코칭과 접목하여 임상 만족도와 효과성을 높일 수 있는 코칭 기술을 제시하였다. 또한 가족치료가 가족코칭과 융합적 적용이 가능한지, 가족치료의 주요 이론들이 임상현장에서 코칭과 접목하여 활용될 때 어떤 유익이 있는지를 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 이중구속과 의사소통 코칭, 가짜 친밀성과 진실한 라포, 부부 균열과 갈등 중재, 분화와 객관적 관조를 비교·분석해 보았다. 본 연구를 기반으로 가족 치료뿐만 아니라 상담 및 심리치료 현장에서 코칭과의 융합적 접근을 시도함으로써 새로운 임상 치료모델과 가족코칭의 학문적 정립을 구축해 나가는 데 기여하기를 바란다.
