The purposes of this study were to categorize the elementary students" concepts of morality through metaphor analysis and try to search a more credible direction of moral education in elementary setting. For this study, a total of 653 elementary school students from the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades were asked to describe morality metaphorically and write down their reasons for the metaphor they chose. To analyze their metaphors, Lakoff and Johnsons" metaphor analysis was adopted and applied. Metaphor allows us to construct and express the concept perceived in one"s mind into a more distinctive and clarifying one through the relational use of the concrete words experienced in one"s daily life. The results of this study showed that the moral education should, firstly, reconsider the developmental aspects of elementary students by estranging from the normative or the cramming methods of teaching, secondly, develop more credible instructional methods based on student interest and experience, thirdly, show teacher"s good modeling in terms of moral education, fourthly, develop an interrelated curriculum with student"s life world, fifthly, actively introduce the formative aspect of moral education, and sixthly, reflect students" real concepts of morality into the development of moral education curriculum.
