Title : Development of tillage methods for reducing damages of continuous sweetpotato cropping
Storage root yield of sweetpotato was decreasing owing to continuous sweetpotato cropping, debasement of soil physical properties, increasing incidence of pest and disease.
This study was conducted to evaluate the changes in physicochemical properties of the soil and the effect on growth and yield of sweetpotato owing to subsoiling(subsoiling to depth 30, 50 cm) and soil addition. The subsoiling treatments included subsoiling treated every year for three years, every year for two years, subsoiling in the first year, and no subsoiling control. The soil physical properties measured were bulk density, hardness, porosity, three phase. Bulk density, porosity, soild(%) of three phase were improved by subsoiling in topsoil and subsoil. Main vine length and vine yield in subsoiling soil and no subsoiling soil were not significantly different. Yield of marketable storage root of ‘Singeonmi’ variety in subsoiling soils treated every year for three years was more increased 47% than no subsoiling soil, it was significantly different. Yield of marketable storage root of ‘Singeonmi’ variety cultivated in soil treated soil addition and subsoiling to depth 50 cm was significantly higher than no subsoiling soil. Soluble solid contents and total free sugar contents of storage root of sweetpotato were not significantly different among the treatments. These results show that improving soil physical properties by subsoiling and soil addition treatments promotes high yield of marketable storage root in continuous sweetpotato cropping field.

A. Effect of basic fertilizers for taste improving of sweetpotato.
This study was carried out in order to improving the quality of edible sweetpotato. Kind of basic fertilization used to cultivation of sweetpotatoes were stevioside, rice bran fermentation compost, silicate fertilizer, and standard fertilizer (N 5.5- P2O5 6.3- K20 15.6kg / 10a). Sweetpotatoes seedling were planted on the polyethylene film mulched plots at a planting density of 70 × 20 cm in May mid. Post-harvest investigated the effect on growth and root tuber yield, and then sugar content, soluble solids and chromaticity of root tuber different among basic fertilization. The results of cultivation in Muan region were as follows;
The number of marketable root tuber and root weight of ‘Yulmi’ cultivar for average 3 years were not significantly different among the basic fertilization by standard fertilizer, silicate fertilizer, stevioside, and rice bran fermentation compost that 2.5 units and 124g per plant, 2.2 and 133, 1.8 and 155, 1.9 and 140, respectively. ‘Yeonhwangmi’ cultivar were similar to 1.6∼2.4 units and 95∼106 g per plant different among the basic fertilization.
Chroma ‘a’ (redness to greenness) value of root skin color of ‘Yulmi cultivar were similar to different among the basic fertilization in which 13.99 standard fertilizer, 14.79 stevioside, 12.86 rice bran fermentation compost and silicate fertilizer was slightly higher 1.97∼3.9 than others fertilizer. The sugar content of steamed ‘Yulmi’ cultivar were similar to 25.8 brix˚% standard fertilizer and 28.3 brix˚% stevioside, but silicate fertilizer and rice bran fermentation compost was tend to slightily higher 25.9 and 29.1 brix˚%, respectively. In that case of ‘Yeonhwangmi’ cultivar was a little higher stevioside compared to 28.7 brix˚% standard fertilizer. Maltose content of ‘Yulmi’ and ‘Yeonhwangmi’ were similar to 23.6, 22.1 g/100g.D.W standard fertilizer, and others fertilizer was 22.9∼19.5 g/100g.D.W.

The marketable of root tuber yield of ‘Yulmi’ cultivar for average 3 years were not significantly 2,538∼2,937 kg/10a different among the basic fertilization by standard fertilizer, silicate fertilizer, stevioside, and rice bran fermentation compost. Chroma ‘a’ (redness to greenness) value of root skin color of ‘Yulmi cultivar were similar to 16.38 standard fertilizer and 16.07 silicate fertilizer. Stevioside and rice bran fermentation compost was a little lower 15.64 and 15.75, respectively. In that case of ‘Yeonhwangmi’ cultivar was a little higher 18.12 silicate fertilizer than others fertilizer. Chroma ‘b’ (yellowness to blueness) value of root skin color of ‘Yulmi cultivar were similar to 27.21∼28.20 different among the fertilizer except for 20.31 silicate fertilizer. The sugar content of steamed ‘Yulmi’ cultivar were similar to 28.3∼29.8 brix˚% different among the fertilize and ‘Yulmi’ cultivar were 28.0∼30.0 brix˚%, respectively. Maltose content of ‘Yulmi’ were 14.6 ∼16.5 g/100g.D.W, and ‘Yeonhwangmi’ were a little higher than ‘Yulmi’ that 17.1∼21.7 g/100g.D.W, respectively.
B. Effect of additional fertilizers for taste improving of sweetpotato.
Kind of additional fertilizers used Stevioside liquid and sulfate of potash. The date and times additional fertilizer were 80, 90, and 100 days after planting, and one, two, and three times scattered, respectively. Sugar content of steamed sweetpotatoes not tendency according to times and kind of additional fertilizers that ‘Yulmi’ cultivar 30.3∼25.8 brix˚%, ‘Yeonhwangmi’ 26.7 ∼31.7 brix˚%. The marketable of root tuber yield was not tendency according times scattered in which ‘Yulmi’ cultivar were 2,467∼2,568 kg/10a, and ‘Yeonhwangmi’ were 1,851∼2,140 kg/10a by mixed Stevioside liquid and soluble sulfate of potash fertilizer. Sugar content of steamed sweetpotatoes of ‘Yulmi’ cultivar was significantly that 3 times scarred higher 29.2 brix˚% than one and two times 26.7, 27.9 brix ˚%. by mixed Stevioside liquid and soluble sulfate of potash fertilizer. Maltose content of ‘Yulmi’ and ‘Yeonhwangmi’ were 21.8 and 24.2 g/100g.D.W by one time scarred It is consider to require more research to find out effect of basic and additional fertilizers for taste improving of sweetpotato.
