To prove the necessity for standardization of domestic national resources, we investigated domestic and imported materials. Including licorice, 83 types of present condition was investigated and the possibility of import substitution of licorice and paper mulberry was reviewed by economic analysis.

Also, total 152 types of extraction condition were established.
We evaluated the properties of Korean and imported agricultural products (licorice and paper mulberry extracts) used in cosmetics, including antioxidizing, whitening, and antimicrobial activities. Uzbekistan licorice extract is used as a whitening agent in cosmetics. Upon comparing the whitening effect and original material costs of extracts from Uzbekistan licorice and Korean paper mulberry, we discovered that Korean paper mulberry could be a viable replacement of Uzbekistan licorice.
In addition, the Korean licorice extract exhibit superior antioxidant, antimicrobial activities,and the distinct active components when compared with those of the Chinese and Uzbekistan licorice extracts. Especially, size standard and quality management standard for licorice from Jecheon in Chungcheongbuk-do, and the manufacturing process of domestic licorice extract are established. We determined the structure of each active component by active component separation of the Korean licorice extract, and measured the antioxidant, antimicrobial, and antiaging activities of each component. For application of the Korean licorice extract, which has outstanding antioxidant and antimicrobial activities, in cosmetics as a functional material, the first step was to establish the optimal conditions for extraction of each component. Using the extracts obtained under the optimal conditions, we formulated cosmetics in cream form. Then, we measured the moisturizing ability and antiseptic activity of the cream. To improve the effect of the Korean licorice’s active components (which had notable antioxidant, whitening, and antimicrobial activities), we conducted research on optimal transdermal delivery systems (hydrogel, ethosome, solid lipid nanoparticle, and cyclodextrin) containing active components. Among the delivery systems researched, that mentioned in the study, “Development and application of pH sensitive hydrogel” was the most notable: this system could be used for the treatment of acne or atopic skin. The licorice extract is developed as oriental medicinal new material which is mainly for hair product. This is made as hair pack and successfully launched through home shopping channel.
In addition, To find stability and effectiveness from raw material, a reliable cell-based high throughput screening(HTS) was introduced. The objective of the present study was to perform a new functional materials compared with domestic and imported materials by functional and physiologically active navigation. In this context, our aim was to evaluate the involvement of the lipid accumulation system in the anti-obesity effect, anti-Andropause, memory disorders improved materials and hyperuricemia (gouty) improved materials. In the present study we showed that the anti-cholesterol and anti-obesity activity, andropause improvement and anti-hyperuricemia (gouty) by domestic Rubus coreanus Miquel (unripe). Moreover, we has been shown that domestic Cornus officinalis extract possess memory disorders improvement effect.
In summary, we established the technology of material standardization and this technology will be widely used for cosmetic industry with domestic natural materials. Additionally, we look forward to using it for export based on the effectiveness and contributing to the development of natural cosmetics and substitution of import by developing domestic licorice extracted cosmetic including antioxidation and antibacterial activity.
