This study was conducted to search feed ingredients for domestic detector dogs` high performance and health.
50 ingredients which were reported or possibly effective were selected. Considering: heat stability, price, accessibility, by-products, intellectual property right: fine tree extract organic sulfur, thistle, hizikia fusiforme, turmeric, safflower seed, acanthopanax, hyaluronic acid., glucosamine, chondroitin, vitamin C, vitamin E. Using selected ingredients, two types of feed was fed to two groups of detector dogs which have joint problems. Immunity of detector dogs were increased, but no remarkable difference on X-Ray. And no difference between formula according to amount of ingredient were found.
9-month-old growing German shepherd dogs were offered an experimental feed on least cost formulation based NRC, literature information, and nutritional information of famous imported pet feed products. Using selected ingredients, the experimental feed was fed to growing German shepherd dogs which are in training, for three months. Comparing with a famous imported pet feed, the experimental feed has somewhat lower in daily weight gain. Blood composition and X-ray does not show big differences between two groups. But the experimental feed is adequate for Korea growing detector dogs. Based on long–term feeding experiments, puppy feed formula, standard and manufacturing practice has been set.
Moreover, 15-month-old German shepherd adult dogs were offered an experimental feed on least cost formulation based NRC, literature information, and nutritional information of famous imported pet feed products. Using selected ingredients, the experimental feed was fed to German shepherd dogs which are in training, for four months. Comparing with a famous imported pet feed, the experimental feed has somewhat lower in daily weight gain. Blood composition and X-ray does not show big differences between two groups. But the experimental feed is adequate for Korea detector dogs. Based on long–term feeding experiments, adult dog feed formula, standard and manufacturing practice has been set.
Theses results suggest that the developed feeds are adequate and peculiar for Korean detector dogs which are in working.

This study was conducted to provide standard manual for prolong performance of domestic detector dogs.
Firstly, interview was conducted with governmental institute. There were several factors which impede the detector dog operation. 1) Lacking of professional trainer and frequent change of handler. 2) Absence of standard program; each institute has varied programs. 3) Poor hygiene condition - Facilities, housing, circumstance of center. 4) Poor safety condition- Training site, equipment. 5) Insufficient number of center for detector dog training. Therefore, we suggested as follows:
- To make one to one training program between dog and trainer.
- To develop breeding management standard manual, so that maintain detector dogs on unified manual.
- To establish more center for training and breeding care enable.
And feeding experiments were conducted to verify performances of growing and adult German shepherd dogs on three levels of crude protein and energy.
The first experiment was conducted on nine growing German shepherd dogs, 5 and 7 months old for two months. The nutrient requirements were crude protein 11.9g/kgBW0.75/h/d and energy 252kcal/kgBW0.75/h/d. The second experiment was conducted on nine adult German shepherd dogs, 17 and 20 months old for two months. The nutrient requirements were crude-protein 5.5g/kgBW0.75/h/d and energy 149kcal/kgBW0.75/h/d.
Final experiment carried out to determine the amount of energy supply, by using treadmill and respiratory gas analysis device. The amount of energy consumption was estimated at different training level. Accumulated energy consumption increase as work continues, energy consumption(y) and working hour(x) (R2 = 0.9972) regression equation (y = -0.0004x2 + 0.0178x + 0.0084) was generated. In addition, ‘Nutrient requirement table on each growth stage’ and ‘Detector dog life span manual’ are suggested. And weekly growing and adult detector dog manual were also suggested.
Finally, we could suggest the basis of unified breeding standard manual for Korean detector dogs.

The purpose of this study was to provide a new insight on the response of canines to stress exposure; the ionomic profiles of canine hair (2.8 ± 0.3 years, 15.17± 2.1 kg) (n= 10) was determined before and after lipopolysaccharide(LPS) injections. LPS was intramuscularly injected to induce inflammatory stress responses which were confirmed by observing increases in the level of serum cortisol, aldosterone, and inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6, IL-1β, and TNF-α. The hair contents of 17 elements were obtained by applying analytical procedures using the inductively
coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The following elements: sodium(Na) and potassium(K) among macro-elements, iron(Fe) and manganese(Mn) among micro-elements, and aluminum(Al), nickel(Ni), and lead(Pb) for toxic elements, showed significant increased levels with the immunological stress. The degree of increase in toxic elements was remarkable with the stress exposure. A forty-five-fold increase seen in Al accumulation with the stress exposure was noteworthy. Although mercury(Hg) and cadmium(Cd) showed decreased levels with the stress exposure, the degree was negligible compared to the level of increase. Correlation pattern between the elements was changed with the immunological stress. Toxic elements became more correlated with macro- or micro-elements than with toxic elements themselves after the stress exposure. Principal component analysis (PCA) showed that LPS challenge shifted the overall hair mineral profiles to a consistent direction changing Al and K up, even in animals with different hair mineral profiles before LPS treatment. In conclusion, the multivariate data processing and study of element distribution patterns provided new information about the ionomic response of the canine hairs to immunological stress, i.e., the ionomic profiles of canine hairs is strongly affected by the stress induced by LPS injections.
