(A) Study on affective factor and the differences related to problem-solving in mathematics and reasoning ability : focused on 6th graders원문보기

This study has a purpose of looking into mathematic problem-solving ability and affective factors related to reasoning ability. It also has a purpose of finding out the differences of the affective factors related to the reasoning ability and the problem-solving ability by analyzing test sheets, depth-interview, and math journals of the children selected for this study.
To attain the purposes of this study, 110 students were selected from 3 classes of 6th graders at the school I work. Test sheets of problem-solving ability and reasoning ability were distributed to the students. Also test sheets that contain 5 subordinate factors of affective characteristics such as concept of ego, attitude, interest, math anxiety, and study habit of math course were used.
To analyze the results of the test, the Correlation Analysis and Multi-Regression Analysis were performed for the relation of affective characteristics, problem-solving, and reasoning ability. 15 children were selected and their questionnaires, interviews, and math journals were analyzed after testing problem-solving and reasoning ability in order to find out the differences of the affective factors related to problem-solving and reasoning ability.
The results of this study are as follows.
First, all the subordinate factors of the affective characteristics such as concept of ego, attitude, interest, math anxiety, and study habit showed correlation with the math problem-solving ability. The factors that influence the math problem-solving ability are concept of ego and math anxiety. The concept of ego in the math course is a perception of student's ability related to mathematic study activities so the teachers need to teach the children to have a positive perception on their abilities of mathematic studies.
Second, all the subordinate factors of the affective characteristics show a significant correlation with the reasoning ability and when the correlation of the affective characteristics and the generalized reasoning ability were observed, it shows a significant correlation with concept of ego, interest, math anxiety, and study habit but there was no significant correlation with attitude.
Third, the affective characteristics that appear on the children with excellent problem-solving ability are that the children have strong concept of ego, they like to solve problems, they have low math anxiety, and when they face a difficult problem, they do not give up. On the other hand, the affective characteristics that appear on the children with excellent reasoning ability are that they build up positive concept of ego easily but after solving easy problems, they tend to give up on the difficult problems and feel no interests in them. However, they have good study habit and they do not have any math anxiety but when there is a test, they feel the anxiety.
