The purposes of this study are, first, to investigate the ways to improve English vocabulary by using English newspapers, commonly called "living textbook," and second, to seek how to develop increased interest and self-confidence for learning English. To achieve these purposes, 20 students with similar proficiency levels out of 34 first year high school students were chosen via a pre-test. They were divided into two groups of 10 students, respectively. One group is to learn English vocabulary by using English Newspapers and the other group is to learn English vocabulary by memorizing the meaning of English words. After that, pre-test, post-test and surveys about affective areas (interest, self-confidence) were done. The results of this study are as follows; First, there was a statistically significant difference in English achievement tests between the two groups. The experimental group of students using English Newspapers showed higher levels of improvement in achievement of English vocabulary than the groups learning English vocabulary memorization. Second, two groups showed a statistically significant gap in interest and self-confidence levels regarding English. Learning English vocabulary using English Newspapers generates more interest and confidence than learning by memorizing English vocabulary. Third, according to this study, a class model for using English newspapers has been createdas an alternative from the ordinary English class, which depends on textbooks. This English class proceeded untilizing the advantages of using English Newspapers for English education. In conclusion, the results of this study have shown that using English newspapers for English vocabulary has positive effects on students' vocabulary ability and affective areas. Therefore, teachers can use English Newspapers in English classes, and teachers are offered suggestions for preparing class and teaching materials as well as researching better ways to use English Newspapers. Also, teachers should know that since the vocabularies in English Newspapers are somewhat difficult for high school students, they should consider students' level and interest to make an effective classroom experience.
