It might be said that in some respects stress is unavoidable in human life. This research will examine to what extent listening to music is effective in getting rid of stress on the assumption that human beings expose themselves to various kinds of stress regardless of generation.
Previously, in the second chapter, I have examined several theories of researchers on music therapy as well as the definitions, functions and principles of music therapy with listening to music in order to suggest theoretical backgrounds. For example, Gaston's Relational Music Therapy, and Sears' Empirical Music Therapy, Behavioral Music Therapy and Psycho-Analytical Music Therapy are suggested as typical examples.
In the third chapter, the results have shown that listening to music can be an effective way to dissolve stress regardless of generation. This draws results from the research on the definitions and its dissolution of stress, and music therapy as a means of the emotional stabilizing, and furthermore from the analyzing of the questionnaire about the effect on dissolving stress from listening to music.
Various causes of stress, such as anxiety, anger, fear, dissatisfaction and sadness, lead to emotional disturbance as well as drops off in efficiency of learning and working. Therefore, stress should be dissolved as soon as possible.
Some of the evidence, such as the responses to the questionnaire, shows that music and discussion give a great deal of weight in order to solve the stress in any generation.
In particular, it also shows that 52.2% of middle-aged people(from early thirties to late forties) choose the way of listening to music or talking with their friends and colleagues. Such consequences are in exquisitely contrasted to individuals in their twenties, 19.2% of whom respond that they prefer to drink to solve the stress.
In conclusion, it is generally recognized that music therapy has the potential to heal stress as a disease incidental to civilization in modern times. In my opinion, music seems to have an important power which can inspire human intelligence and sentiment.
