Idle booming and shudder vibration are two of the most frequent vibrational phenomena with which vehicle drivers can meet. These are also considered as the serious problems on the noise and vibration of the constant velocity joint. Especially, shudder vibration due to the longitudinal movement of the intermediate shaft. In this paper, two different shapes of drive shafts which is called TJ(Tripod joint) or UTJ(Shudderless Tripod joint) are selected as samples. The sample test has been performed firstly in order to find out the plunging force at the idle situation and the generated axial force at the rapid acceleration range in manufacture factories. For studying trends of between sample test of drive shaft and actual test of vehicle, we performed idle and shudder tests. In idle test, reference position of vibration is T/M(transmissjon) and responses of vibration are got accelerations at inboard joint, shaft, outboard joint, and hub knuckle. We used five tri-axial accelerometers to measure accelerations at each point of tested vehicle and calculated apparent masses at each point of drive shaft by experiment methods. Also we could get the Y axis acceleration value at every position of drive shaft in the tested vehicle and compared with those as vibration characteristics. In idling ranges, we changed spider angle by 45˚. In shudder test, transmission position is D or 1^(ST) range. we performed simulation which was used Matlab 7.0 simulink program and parameter of design plan TJ for input value. Variation of vibration does not depend on spider angle much and vibration characteristics at LH(Left Half-shaft) is more consistent than that of RH(Right Half-shaft) due to the mass of dynamic damper of RI-L In every points, idle vibration characteristics of sample 가(TJ good viscosity) is better than that of sample 다(UTJ good viscosity). The actual test results of vehicle have the same tendency to ones of sample tests. In actual test of vehicle, shudder vibration characteristics of UTJ is better than that of TJ. We could get the acting force at contact point between center of roller and tulip and compared with sample test as plunging force result. As a result, between acting force in simulation and plunging force result is errors of less than 20%. Without Dynamics Conditions (Friction, Dynamic Momentum) it is acceptable.
