ADHD Rating Scale-IV: Parent Version(...

It is reported that many kinds of psychiatric disorders, including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder(ADHD), are related with abnormal brain wave activity, and neurofeedback(EEG biofeedback) is associated with clinical improvement in attention deficit disorder, previous study with neurofeedback is very lack. So in this study, the author applied neurofeedback to children with inattention. During about 3 months in 2008, 20 children with inattention had received 15~20 sessions of neurofeedback training. To neurofeedback, the C3-A1 mode for treating underarousal was applied, and for evaluating treatment effects, the author measured degrees of attention 5 times before every treatment and 4~5 times in total after every treatment by using a diagnosis tool for ADHD, the ADHD Rating Scale-IV: Parent Version (ARS) and Attention Deficit Disorder Evaluation Scale-Home Version (ADDES-HV). In addition, the author compared treatment effects by measuring degrees of inattention, as well as impulsivity and hyperactivity. After completing 20 sessions, the author evaluated patterns of changes in behaviors among the children through interviews with their parents. As a result, there were significant improvement in the inattention scores of ADDES-HV, and similarly there showed significant improvement in impulsivity and hyperactivity. In subjective evaluation through interviews with the parents, according to their responses, 15 children were found to show positive changes, while no particular treatment effects showed for 5 children. In conclusion, through neurofeedback treatment, inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity were improved among children, suggesting possibilities that neurofeedback could be a method for treating ADHD. However since due to some limitations of this study, the results are not sufficient to be generalized, further study is needed in order to evaluate treatment effects more accurately.
