The purpose of the study was to examine the effects of evidence-based nursing practice guidelines (EBPGs) on the nurses? knowledge regarding specific clinical practice and acceptance of evidence based practice (EBP) as well as post operative pain, nausea, and vomiting, temperature managements of the abdominal surgery patients. To examine the effects of EBPGs, single group pre-post test for nurses and interrupted times series design for the abdominal surgery patients were adapted respectively. Before data collection, EBPGs on post operative pain, nausea and vomiting, and body temperature were translated into Korean and validated by various clinical experts using likert scale. Most of the recommendations of EBPGs were accepted without revision and then developed by web-based program to enhance the accessibility by nurses. Five sessions of educational program regarding the EBP were provided to the nurses who accepted research participation voluntarily. Data were collected before, 2weeks, and 4 weeks later of the installation of EBPGs. Total of 27 nurses and 124 patients were recruited for the experimental or control group. The collected data were analyzed by the real number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, χ²-test, Repeated measures ANOVA, analysis of variance by using the SPSS/WIN 17.0 program. The results of the study were as follows. ․ After the installation of the EBPGs on the web, both of the level of nurses? knowledge on each of pain, nausea, vomiting, and temperature management and the level of nurses? progress evaluation for EBP were significantly improved compare to the pre-test. ․ After the application of the EBPGs to the patients, the pain score of patients was significantly lower than that of control group. ․ After the application of the EBPGs to the patients, the nausea level of patients was significantly lower than that of pre-test, however, there was no significant difference in the number of incidence of nausea and vomiting after the application of the EBPGs on the patients. ․ After the application of the EBPGs to the patients, the body temperature levels of patient in the recovery room as well as units were significantly higher than those of control group. Based on the above results, we can conclude that the web-based EBPG is effective method for enhancing the degree of knowledge of nurses on pain, nausea, vomiting, temperature management as well as the acceptances for the EBP. Also EBPG was effective strategies for managing pain, nausea and vomiting, and body temperature for the patients undergone the abdominal surgery. Therefore, Evidence-Based nursing guidelines should be recommended as peri-operative nursing interventions for the every patient undergoing surgery to improve the quality of care and outcomes of patients. In addition, more evidence based guidelines should be adapted in the various clinical practices and more research on EBP is needed.
