This study has attempted to find out the influence of maternity on young children's(aged 4 to 7) eating habits and needs of nutrition education contents that most mothers want to know for building children's eating habit in Changwon. For this, an in-depth interview method has been taken. The results of this paper would be available as basic data for development of nutrition education-related programs for children. The results can be summarized as follows: 1. In terms of feeding patterns, mixed breastfeeding was the highest (13 mothers, 56.5%), followed by formula feeding (6 mothers, 26.1%) and breastfeeding for more than six (6) months (4 mothers, 17.4%). 2. When asked when formula feeding started, '5-6 months' was the highest (56.5%). The mothers who make weaning food by self (47.8%) said that they started the weaning food with fruit juice and cereals. 3. When asked if the weaning food had an influence on a child's eating habits, 65.2% said 'YES' while 34.8% responded 'NO.' 4. When asked how they offer a new food to their children, 47.8% answered 'through detailed explanation' while 30.4% said 'encouraging them to eat it in person through nearby acquaintances.' 5. In terms of menu, 39.1% said that they make food which could satisfy their child's taste. On the contrary, 34.8% responded that their husband's preference of snacks, instant food and delivery food at night had a bad impact on their children. 6. In terms of food choice and recipe, 87.0% mothers have prepared the food just the way their mothers did. Because mothers usually prepare food depending on their taste, their food preferences have a direct impact on their children. 7. All mothers wanted to have diverse education to help their children acquire good eating habits and hoped that daycare centers would provide nutrition education. They were aware of the importance of a teacher's role. According to these results, most mothers have either mixed-breastfeeding or fed infant formula to their babies due to a shortage of breast milk. They said that their children still like the foods that they enjoyed when they were toddlers. Mothers' food choice during the period of weaning has had an influence on their children's eating habits. Therefore, it is necessary for public health center and pregnancy & childcare centers to provide nutrition education on food which is good for breastfeeding and the importance of food choice during the period of weaning. Unlike fathers, mothers' food preference had an impact on children's eating habits. In addition, many mothers prepare the food just the way their mothers did. In other words, food preference has been passed down from generation to generation. Therefore, it is important for mothers to help their children have good and sound eating habits based on correct nutrition knowledge. According to the survey, most mothers were not sure of the foods which is good for children. In other words, it is necessary to provide them various nutrition-related educations. Dietary Life Education Assistance Act and National Nutrition Management Act were legislated into effect in 2009 and 2010 respectively. This new laws would become more effective when a local community focuses on mothers' education for children's health.
