The purpose of this study is to identify effects of trunk muscular strength training on the muscular strength, range of motion, and pain of patients of surgery on rotator cuff. The subjects in this study were 20 patients who underwent arthroscopic shoulder surgery because of rotator cuff tear. They were randomly divided into the experiment group (ten) and the control group (the rest ten), and the experiment group was conducted of six-week trunk muscular strength training three times a week and the control group was conducted of conservative physical therapy. All the subjects consented to the training process and participation in the study. As for measurements, isokinetic devices were used to measure muscular strength of internal and external rotation in the upper limbs before the surgery and six weeks after the training, and to measure range of motion (ROM) and visual analog scale (VAS) before the training, at third week of the training, and six weeks after the training. The results of this study are as follows. As for changes between and after the training in the upper limbs within groups, there were significant differences in internal and external rotation of the training group (p.05). Meanwhile, there were significant differences in the trunk muscular strength and range of motion between the experiment group and the control group (p.05), while significant differences were shown between the groups six weeks after the training (p<.05). Conclusively, the trunk muscular strength training was effective on muscular strength, range of motion, and pain. It may be suggested that patients can return to their daily life earlier when they undergo trunk training with conservative physical therapy after surgery.
