An Analysis on Trend of Early Childhood Social Education according to a Change in Kindergarten Curriculum
The purpose of this study is to examine how the contents of Early Childhood Social Education has been changed according to revision of kindergarten curriculum, by analyzing the social education contents from the 1st kindergarten curriculum to the revised kindergarten curriculum in 2007. The research scopes in this study are as follows. First, how have the contents been changed in relation to social scientific concept? Second, how have the contents been changed in relation to social skills? Third, how have the contents been changed in relation to social value and attitude?
To solve research scopes of this study, it elicited the social education contents out of the whole contents from the 1st kindergarten curriculum to 2007 revised kindergarten curriculum, and again classified it into social scientific concept, social skills, and social value & attitude according to research scope. The classified contents by research scope were obtained each frequency and were comparatively analyzed a change in contents.
These findings are summarized as follows.
First, the frequency of social scientific concept in the fields of psychology, economics, anthropology, and ecology was analyzed to have been grown gradually according to revision of curriculum. Social changes came to be experienced such as development in psychology, a change in family structure, recognition on multi-culture·anti-bias, a problem about energy depletion and environmental contamination. Due to these, interests in the relevant learning field have been growing, and the relative importance and contents of a social scientific concept in each learning field, which was shown in curriculum, were indicated to have been changed.
Second, ‘self-control’ in self-regulated skill and 'sharing' and 'cooperating' in pro-social skill were shown to possess relatively more important than other social skills. This is the reason that the kindergarten curriculum is what is made by having basic proposition as preschoolers' kindergarten life, thereby being importantly addressed social skills such as emotional·behavioral self-control, sharing, and cooperating, which are necessary for preschoolers to live together with friends at kindergarten. Also, by a change into information society, the contents were emerged on information-acquisition skill and information organization & application skill, which are social learning skills, from the 5th curriculum.
Finally, compared to the contents on individual value, the contents on universal value were indicated to be addressed more. This was analyzed to be a reason that the universal value becomes the foundation of basic living habit of being emphasized by kindergarten education. As the development in democracy, the society was changed to that are respected an individual's personality, diversity, and particularity. Consequently it was indicated that the contents were dealt with a positive thinking, respect for other person, trust in other person, respect for life, an individual's religion, an individual's political faith and an individual's preference from the 4th curriculum.
