ABSTRACT The Analysis on structural system and Content of Korean Geography Textbook by the 2009 Revised Curriculum : with a focus on Topographic Environment and Ecology Unit Lee, Gyeong Mi Department of Geography Education Graduate School of Education, Kongju National University Supervised by Prof. Choi, Won Hoe The main direction of the 2009 revised curriculum is to pursue changes in education to nurture creative talents, reduction of the excessive burden on students and learning interested in learning-induced and raising the ability to understand to practice in the caring and sharing rather than teaching excessive memorizing-centered education and fragmented knowledge. The 2009 revised curriculum is aimed that future society needs to develop creative talents who can not only contribute to the development of their country and global community but also demonstrate their ability to open up career in the world. In response to these changes, this revised social studies curriculum is changed by acceptance social changes and the theory of philosophic nature of the course curriculum, objectives, teaching-learning and assessment methods, and in all aspects have been revised to reflect the reality, textbooks also has been changed in the level of contents according to the revised curriculum. If it is possible that implementation of revised curriculum for Korean geography textbooks is succeeded, it would be a good opportunity of an ideal Korean geography education in school. Thus It's important that we have to study Korea's geography textbook structural system and appropriateness of the content. In this study, in accordance with the 2009 revised curriculum, five kinds of Korean geography textbooks were selected to analyze the texts of the structural system, in particular, 'Ⅱ. Topography environment and ecology lesson, "was centered on analyzing the contents. From the result of the study, five kinds of Korean geography textbooks were reflected well the 2009 revised curriculum in content. In essence emphasizing the learner's thinking ability for exploring activiy , the specific case-based learning activities are desirable, but the lacks of a variety of learning materials showed up such as statistical data is inaccurate, the map of the location is incorrect, inappropriate the term of choice, inadequate section on hierarchical information. These problems in Korean geography textbook writing should be amended and be overcome by organizing from time to time the suitability of the content through the test process.
