학교 현장에서 학생들에게 수학 학습에 대한 동기를 부여하기란 어려운 일이다. 미국에서 시작된 융합형 인재 교육(Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics : STEAM)은 현재 우리 나라에서도 다양하게 연구, 적용되고 있으며 그 중 로봇 활용 수업에 대한 열기 또한 대단하다. 이를 반영한 문제 중심 학습(Problem-Based Learning : PBL)에 활용하기 적합한 수학 문제들을 개발하기 위하여 PBL 기준에 따라 문제를 제작하고 수학적 태도 변화를 살펴보았다. 수학교사, 로봇활용교사, 수학교수 등의 전문가의 조언을 받아 로봇을 활용한 PBL 문제를 제작, 선별하여 PBL 기준에 따라 평가한 후 최종 수정하였으며 총 6종의 문제와 각각에 대한 모둠 활동지, 개별 활동지, 지도안을 개발하였다. 제작한 문제를 사용하여 중학교 1학년 학생을 대상으로 로봇을 활용한 PBL 수업을 진행하였으며 수학적 태도 변화를 관찰하였다. 그 결과 수학이 타 학문이나 실생활에 얼마나 필요한가를 측정하는 유용성 척도와 수학이 왜 필요한지를 얼마나 느끼고 있고 얼마나 수학 공부가 하고 싶어졌는지를 보는 동기성 척도에서의 유의미한 변화를 나타내었으며 설문조사를 통한 질적인 조사에서도 수학의 실생활과의 연계성을 실감하고 수학 학습의 필요성에 대해 깨닫게 되었다. 더불어 협동학습을 통한 자신감, 협동심, 성취감을 기를 수 있었고 융합형 인재 교육(Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics : STEAM)을 통해 타 교과와의 관계를 이해하면서 수학학습에 흥미를 갖게 되었다고 하였다. 따라서 이 로봇을 활용한 융합형(STEAM) PBL 수학 문제를 제작하여 수업에 적용한 결과 학생들의 수학적 태도 향상에 도움이 되었음을 보여준다.

To reflect these recent trends, I developed some mathematical problems which are proposed to be used in the PBL (Problem-Based Learning) type mathematics instruction, and observed changes in students' attitudes about mathematics in response to those problems. Advices from experts have been carefully taken in developing PBL problems which can be used in Robot based instruction, screening for best sets of problems, and evaluating them according to the PBL criteria. These experts include mathematics teachers, other subject teachers using robot, and mathematics professors. Through a thorough revision, a total of six sets of problems were developed along with group and individual activity sheets, and a guidance plan for each problem set. After teaching PBL mathematics lesson in robot based instruction using newly developed problem sets, I observed changes in first-year middle school students' attitudes about mathematics. As a result, a series of meaningful changes were observed in the perception of usefulness which shows how much students understand that mathematics is useful for other subjects and our real life. and motivation measure which shows that how much students understand why they need to learn mathematics and their eager to study it. Qualitative research using survey also shows that the students' understanding about relationship between mathematics and real life, and necessity of studying mathematics has improved. In the survey, students also say that they become more self-confident, cooperative and feel a sense of accomplishment through cooperative learning. They also became more interested in learning mathematics by understanding the relationship between mathematics and other subjects through a STEAM(Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) education method.
