Effect of Psychomotor Traditional Plays on Sensorimotor Development of Children with Developmental Delays Department of Special Physical Education Graduate School of Hanshin University sang-wook, Lee The purpose of this study is to look into the effects of psychomotor traditional plays on development of sensorimotor functions including visual and auditory perception, fine motor skill, body regulation capability, language skills, and sociality of children with developmental delays. The task of this study is divided into two categories one of which suggests a question on pre-test and post-test analysis, and the other of which studies how to differentiate the developmental effects on six subcategories of the tests. The main two questions are following: First, does psychomotor traditional plays intervention have effectiveness on the improvement of visual and auditory perception, fine motor skill, body regulation capability, and language skills of children with developmental delay? Second, does psychomotor traditional plays intervention have a positive influence on sociality of children with developmental delay? The first candidate group were total 26 children aged from 3 to 7 who were referred to the H developmental center located in Yongin city. Among them 17 children who had been diagnosed with developmental delay were selected for the subject candidates. 8 children were finally selected for the study subjects following selection criteria. First, children under the age of 6 who were diagnosed with developmental delay by the medical professional and entered the group of borderline or delay through KCDR-R assessment. Second, children who were categorized into delay of sensorimotor development through SEG assessments by their parents. Third, children with no experience of psychomotor intervention. In interviews from the parents and observations from the researcher basic informations were collected in the beginning of June, 2013. For the pre-test the parents evaluated on 6 categories which were divided into 48 subcategories in SEG in the end of June, 2013. Total 16 sessions of a 50 minute psychomotor traditional plays intervention were carried out to each subject in the exercise room of the H center in Yongin city twice a week for 8 weeks from July to September, 2013. The SEG results from pre-test and post-test of each subject were analyzed by paired T-Test in SPSS 18.0 program. The results of the intervention effects are following: First, psychomotor traditional plays intervention has effectiveness on the improvement of visual and auditory perception, fine motor skill, body regulation capability, and language skills of young children with developmental delay. Second, psychomotor traditional plays intervention has a positive influence on sociality of young children with developmental delay.
