This study aims to analyze the differences of perception about lifelong educators emotional labor between job burnout and turnover intention, to investigate the influence relationship among them and furthermore, to verify the effect of lifelong educators emotional labor on turnover intention by the medium of job burnout. This study is focused on proving that emotional labor, job burnout and turnover intention are important variables to affect individual aspects of lifelong educators and organizational aspects of lifelong education institutions by investigating the influence relationship among lifelong educators emotional labor, job burnout and turnover intention. This would provide theoretical and practical implications which are helpful in improving labor conditions and employment forms of lifelong educators and performing their duties. For achieving this study purpose, the following research problems were set. First, does lifelong educators emotional labor influence their turnover intention? Second, does lifelong educators emotional labor influence their job burnout? Third, does lifelong educators job burnout influence their turnover intention? Fourth, does lifelong educators emotional labor influence their turnover intention by the medium of job burnout?. The research tools used in verifying these research problems are as follows. For measuring lifelong educators emotional labor which is an independent variable, the measurement items devised by Ashforth & Humphery(1993) and Hochschild(1983), Brotheridige & Grandey(2002) and Morris & Feldman(1996), and Chu & Murrmann(2006) were amended and supplemented to be suitable for the study purpose. For measuring lifelong educators job burnout that is a mediating variable, the Maslach Burnout Inventory(MBI) developed by Maslach & Jackson(1981a) was reorganized to be suitable for the study purpose. According to the study purpose, 400 questionnaires were distributed to lifelong educators working in lifelong education institutions and 300 questionnaires were collected(return rate: 75%). Here, a total of 260 questionnaires were used for the final analysis, except 40 ones. The study findings are as below. First, the surface acting of lifelong educators emotional labor directly influenced their turnover intention. Second, the surface acting of lifelong educators emotional labor directly influenced their job burnout. Third, lifelong educators job burnout directly influenced their turnover intention. Fourth, the deep acting of lifelong educators emotional labor did not directly influence their turnover intention, but there was an influence relationship by the medium of job burnout. The surface acting of emotional labor had a direct and indirect effect on their turnover intention. As shown above, it was found that emotional labor had a directly and indirectly considerable effect on lifelong educators turnover intention by the medium of job burnout which played a partially mediating role. The implications of these study results are as follows. First, lifelong education institutions should provide a continuous educational program about emotional labor, job burnout and turnover intention for lifelong educators. This is to provide a high-quality lifelong educational service for learners and the persons concerned by relieving a negative emotion during lifelong educators work performance. Second, lifelong education institutions need to provide a stable working environment by improving employment forms and labor conditions of lifelong educators. In addition, lifelong education institutions should support lifelong educators by sharing experience and studying cases so that they can understand learners and the persons concerned and feel empathy with them and show their capabilities. Third, lifelong education institutions have to allocate various roles efficiently and help in performing systematic work through work analysis, for reducing lifelong educators emotional labor, job burnout and turnout intention.
