Non-verbal factors in communication have several meanings; however, few academic inquiries into these have been conducted. Since a non-verbal factor a narrator involves in message delivery serves as a type of complete message, it should be thoroughly examined. The purpose of this study is to determine the importance of the non-verbal communication factors found in show hosts' speech situations, identify their direct and indirect persuasive effects, and develop an effective communication strategy. For this purpose, this study intended to identify show hosts' non-verbal characteristics and the effects of the non-verbal communication factors on credibility, preference, and purchasing intention. In addition, it tried to determine how credibility and preference affected purchasing intention. To do this, literature review as qualitative research, in-depth interviews with 24 experts, data analysis, and quantitative research, including Research 2 for examining the persuasive effects of show hosts' non-verbal communication factors on credibility, preference, and purchasing intention and Research 3 for examining the persuasive effects of intonation variation and different pauses among the components of paralanguage were conducted. This study obtained the following results: The literature review confirmed that show hosts could be recognized as broadcasters and were required of persuasion and non-verbal qualifications. Credibility and preference were identified for their persuasive aspects and paralanguage, physical behavior, and physical appearance for their non-verbal aspects. They conversed on the peripheral route of the elaboration likelihood model and became factors to form a purchasing intention. On this basis, interviews with the professional group and data analysis could be performed to identify show hosts' characteristics of non-verbal communication(Research 1): First, there are a wide range of show hosts' non-verbal factors, which have a diversity of uses, including emphasis, description, complement, and persuasion. Second, show hosts' paralanguage delivers a verbal message vividly through diverse uses of voice. In particular, it is characterized by high-pitched and quick speaking and emotional expression. Third, show hosts make a diversity of natural physical behaviors. Of these, gestures are characterized by product demonstration, order induction, emotional expression, evaluation, direction, listening, and so on. Fourth, show hosts' physical appearance has become more splendid and more important. It is most remarkably characterized by the use of clothing as a means of demonstrating goods. Research 2 investigated the effects of show hosts' non-verbal communication factors (paralanguage, physical behavior, and physical appearance) and their sub-factors on credibility, preference, and consumers' purchasing intention. First, physical activity among the non-verbal communication factors positively affected expertise and reliability in credibility, attractiveness in preference, and the purchasing intention. Second, paralanguage among the non-verbal communication factors negatively affected reliability among the sub-factors of credibility, attractiveness among the sub-factors of preference, and the purchasing intention. Third, physical appearance among the non-verbal communication factors negatively affected expertise among the sub-factors of credibility and positively affected reliability, attractiveness and similarity in preference, and the purchasing intention. Fourth, both expertise and reliability among the sub-factors of credibility positively affected the purchasing intention. Research 3 confirmed that intonation variation and different pauses in paralanguage led to the different persuasive effects. Three types of audio files made with 'low, moderate, and high levels' of intonation variation and pauses were used to perform a survey. It obtained the following results: First, both intonation variation and pauses positively affected credibility. Second, both intonation variation and pauses positively affected preference. However, 'great intonation variation and lots of pauses' in terms of intonation variation and 'slight intonation variation and a few pauses' in terms of pauses insignificantly affected preference. Third, intonation variation and pauses positively affected purchasing intention. However, 'great intonation variation and lots of pauses' in terms of intonation variation and 'slight intonation variation and a few pauses' in terms of different pauses also insignificantly affected purchasing intention. Fourth, as for intonation variation and different pauses, 'moderate levels of intonation variation and pauses' positively affected credibility, preference, and purchasing intention, which was more significant than 'slight intonation variation and a few pauses' or 'great intonation variation and lots of pauses.' That is, a narrator's purposive and proper use of intonation variation and pauses for the important part of the message was found to be important in enhancing persuasiveness. Show hosts' non-verbal communication factors were found to be intended for persuasion and have specific characteristics. They were also found to significantly affect credibility, preference, and the purchasing intention. However, as paralanguage negatively affected credibility, preference, and the purchasing intention, efforts should be made to complement these effects. That is, as confirmed by Research 2, efforts should be made to use appropriate paralanguage. Further, as the non-verbal effects of show hosts' purchasing persuasion communication have been confirmed, show hosts need to use non-verbal factors positively to describe a product and reinforced non-verbal training should be applied in their training. This study used interviews with experts, data analysis, and Researches 2 and 3 to review and specify show hosts' non-verbal communication in general, present the
