For the design of system supports, applied loads are determined by specifications of ‘Standard Specification in Temporary Construction’ and ‘Guide to Installation of Shores for a Concrete Bridge’. The applied loads are comprised of vertical load (fixed load including self weight, form load and live load at forming), horizontal load, and wind load. In most sites, due to the lack of the awareness for the temporary structure which has short setting period from set up to removal, only the vertical load which is relatively easy to calculate, has been considered for the estimation of the factor of safety. Therefore, in this thesis, 2-dimensional analysis is performed for the form-shore system with various specifications by applying the fixed load and the minimum horizontal load. With the compressive force and bending moment value obtained from the analysis, the maximum combined stress ratio is estimated to examm the safety of system supports.
Structural analysis is conducted with parameters of system supports including the spacing of vertical member, the installation height, and the thickness of slab. The stress under both compressive force and bending moment is estimated by modifying the spacing of the vertical members to 0.9 m, 1.2 m, 1.5 m and 1.8 m. The result shows similar axial stress but difference of bending stress increases with the consideration of the horizontal load, and combined stress ratio increase over 1.6 times. Analysis results with modifying installation height to 6 m, 8 m, 10 m and 12 m show that the bending stress increases as height increases and combined stress ratio increases from 1.529 to 2.295. Results for the various thickness of slab to 0.3 m, 0.5 m, 0.7 m and 0.9 m show that the bending stress increases as the thickness of slab increases, and the combined stress ration increased from 1.530 to 2.295.
Structural analysis for the system support show that, for all the cases, the combined stress ratio increases significantly when the horizontal stress in considered. Most of structures considered to be safety with considering vertical load become unsafety when the both the vertical load and the horizontal load are considered. Therefore, the horizontal load suggested in the specifications of ‘Standard Specification in Temporary Construction’ and ‘Guide to Installation of Shores for a Concrete Bridge’ Should be considered in the design of system supports.
