The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of university students’ contact experience with the disabled on their perception of the disabled, whether positive or negative, and to suggest the possibility of changing negative perception to positive one. To achieve this purpose, 314 abled students from K University in Chung-Buk province were chosen as the subjects through purposive sampling in non-probability sampling. Out of the total of 314 questionnaires collected, 297 questionnaires were used for this study excluding 17 questionnaires that were not fully filled out. Based on purpose of analysis this study employed SPSS 21.0 statistics program for computerizing the results. Statistics methods employed are Factorial Analysis, Reliability Analysis, T-test, One-way ANOVA, Correlation Analysis and Multiple Regression Analysis. As a result of analyzing the contact experience of university students with the disabled and their perception of the disabled, results are as follows: First, there was a meaningful difference according to sex in terms of experience of having taken the same class, experience of having been offended when contacted with the disabled, experience of having volunteered for the disabled. On perception about the disabled, there was a statistically meaningful difference according to sex in terms of unconditional rejection and distorted identification. Second, there was a meaningful difference according to grades in terms of experience of having participated in events for the disabled and volunteered for the disabled. On perception about the disabled, there was no meaningful difference according to grades. Third, there was a statistically meaningful difference in majors in terms of having a disabled family member or relative, experience of close contact with the disabled, experience of having taken the same class. On perception about the disabled, all the variables except for authoritarian attitude showed a statistically meaningful difference according to majors. Fourth, according to religions, a meaningful difference was shown in terms of having a disabled family member or relative, experience of close contact with the disabled, experience of having taken the same class, experience of having volunteered for the disabled. Regarding perception about the disabled there was no meaningful difference according to religions. Fifth, there was no meaningful difference according to household income in terms of experience of having contact with the disabled and perception about the disabled. With the study methods and procedures mentioned above, this study on the influence of university students’contact experience on their perception about the disabled has led to the following results. First, having a disabled family member or relative and having a close relationship with the disabled have a positive impact on unconditional rejection and close relationship rejection. Second, experience of having taken the same class and contact experience has a positive impact on inferential emotional disability, rejection of close relationship, and distorted identification. Third, experience of having participated in events for the disabled has a positive influence on unconditional rejection and rejection of close relationship. Fourth, experience of having been offended when having a contact with the disabled has a negative impact of rejection of close relationship. Fifth, experience of having taken part in events for the disabled has a positive influence on unconditional rejection. Based on the results from this study, suggestions on social welfare policy can be made in followings: First, educational institutions have to plan, develop, and systemically manage integrated educational programs where disabled and abled students can interact for their hobbies, entertainment, and studies. Second, not only educational institutions, but also the society itself has to put efforts in raising public awareness about the disabled by hosting various events for the disabled and advertising policies for the disabled. Third, the disabled themselves have to be encouraged to be integrated into the society. In order to do that, there needs to be a qualitative change in current social integration programs for the disabled, which requires more support of the government. Lastly, more direct and systemic volunteering for the disabled needs to take place to change perception about the disabled.
