Effects of Cranio-Cervical Flexion Exercise on Muscle Activity of Sternocleidomastoid and Upper Trapezius in Children with Spastic Diplegia원문보기

(Abstract) The purpose of this study was to examine the change of muscle activity of sternocleidomastoid and upper trapezius for children with spastic diplegia through cranio-cervical flexion exercise. Eighteen subjects were randomly assigned to the control group (n=7, 12±2.44y) and experimental group (n=11, 9.8±2.89) on which cranio-cervical flexion exercise is applied for two times per week during eight weeks. PBU is used to measure the static endurance of deep neck flexors and sEMG is used to measure muscle activity SCM and upper trapezius. The subjects were assessed by PBU and sEMG at pre-value and post-value. The results of this study were as followed. In experiment group, static endurance is statistical significantly increase in post-value (p<0.05). The experimental group showed significant decrease of SCM muscle activity in post-value measurement (p0.05). In conclusion, these findings suggested that cranio-cervical flexion exercise could improve the static endurance and decrease the muscle activity of SCM and upper trapezius in children with spastic diplegia. It is imply that deep neck flexors which is control the neck stability are strengthening.
