This study aims at an in-depth understanding of experience of Fandom activity and ego-identity development by adult women who has the experience of the first generation fandom in adolescence period from their point of view. This study was carried out with a view to answer the following major questions, “What experiences of fandom activity does one have in adolescence?” and “What does one perceive of how the fandom activities influence ego-identity development? This study focused on adult women who have experiences of the first generation fandom activities . In the light of the wide rage of fandom activity, after reviewing the advanced studies, this study selected 10 women experiencing more then 2 years of joining the fan club and carried out an interview with them for about 1 hour each. For the interview, This study used semi-structured questionnaire based on the self-identity scale tool developed by Seo BongYeon. The intensive interviews were analyzed by using Consensual Qualitative Research (CQR). The consensual team which consists of four judges including the researcher drew domains and core ideas from 10 cases, and went through the process of re-agreement under the auditing of auditor. After this process, the research went through the process of cross-analysis, categorized the core ideas in the fields. The results of cross-analysis also reached a new conclusion through supervision. As a result of the research, the data from the CQR analysis were categorized into 6 major domains with 13 categories. First, the result revealed that most of the participants had the experience of stability and consistency. The fandom activity gave a positive emotion(please, happy, excited, comfortable, stable, bright feeling) and stress reduction from studies and repetitive life style. Second, the participants had a positive experience of interpersonal role expectation. They fulfilled their lives as a student in school and role in daily life contrary to completely immersion in fandom activity. They balanced it as a leisure and hobby. Also they felt proud sharing information about their favorite star and their abilities. Therefore, they learned the enjoyment of sharing and how to be considerate of others. Third, the participants had experience of self-acceptance as they knew and understood who they were. Through different fandom activities, they found what they did well and gained confidence as they were acknowledged by their friends. They tried to do something with effort which they have never done and spent their time and energy or their aim and discovered their passion. In addition, they had the experience of performing leadership in the fandom activities through group activities. Fourth, through fandom activities, the participants got experience of self argument. They had not known what they wanted and how to express themselves but they coul d express their thoughts and feelings freely as experiencing support, encouragement and acceptance from other close fans. Fifth, the participants had a positive experience of interpersonal relationships. They could communicate with the person whom they met for the first time and becamme friends easily with their favorite star. And they had the chance to meet people of different areas, ages, jobs and as a result, they could experience a broad range of interpersonal relationships. Also they could recognize each other through symbolic colours representing certain idol stars and goods which express one's identity. And by acting with a sense of purpose, they got a sense of being part of a group, and acted for the group’s interests. Lastly, the participants indicated the negative experience of self existence awareness. They showed reckless actions and aggression of themselves through the fandom activities. In this study, above all, it gives what the fandom activity has effects on ego-identity by applying the sub factors in the scale by Seo Bong Yeon. Secondly, it gives more specific cases by categorizing the fandom activities in adolescence and the ego-indentity development. Third, the participants are the adult women who have experienced the first fandom. Therefore, the study can prove whether the first effect of study results in the advanced studies have lasted or not. This offers an understanding of the characters of forming ego-identity in adolescence and the basis.
