Analysis of Structural Relationship among Instructional Quality, Academic Emotions, Perceived Achievement and Learning Satisfaction in Offline & Online University Lectures원문보기

We have emphasized cognitive side of learning and rather overlooked its emotional side until now. However, educators are interested in its emotional aspect recently because academic emotions that learners experience in class have an impact on learning. They possibly regulate the behavior, control the learning process and promote the information processing.
The purpose of this study was to examine the structural relationships between variables influencing learning outcomes. Based on the literature review, instructional quality(content, interaction, environment), academic emotions(positive emotion, negative emotion) were chosen as the factors related to the learning outcomes, perceived achievement and learning satisfaction. This study investigated how those factors affected perceived achievement and learning satisfaction and analyzed direct, indirect and total effects between the variables. Also, academic emotions that occurred in offline and online lectures were analyzed separately because online environment might include some additional factors which caused emotions.
The subject of the study was 1,300 students from K university. A survey had been administered from June 11 to 20, 2015 and only 1,245 valid cases were used for analysis.
Descriptive statistics, validity and reliability check of the measurement scales, correlation analysis and structural equation modeling(SEM) analysis were conducted using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0. The measurement variables of the structural equation model were found valid and appropriate for SEM analysis. The goodness-of-fit indices of the model was χ2 = 791.25(p= .00, df= 256), TLI = .922, CFI = .934, SRMR = .056, RMSEA = .067 in offline lectures and χ2 = 1121.91(p= .00, df= 256), TLI = .918, CFI = .930, SRMR = .060, RMSEA = .066 in online lectures. This showed that the theoretical model in this study fitted well the empirical data.
The major findings of this study are as follows;
First, as for hypothesis test result of direct effects, instructional quality(content, interaction, environment) and academic emotions(positive emotion, negative emotion) had an effect on perceived achievement and learning satisfaction. 11 out of total 16 hypotheses were approved in offline lectures and 12 out of total 16 hypotheses in online lectures. The variables affecting the perceived achievement were content, positive emotion and negative emotion in both offline and online lectures. The variables affecting the learning satisfaction were content, interaction, positive emotion and negative emotion in both offline and online lectures. Content, interaction and environment were found to be the factors affecting positive emotion in both offline and online lectures. The variable affecting the negative emotion was only content in offline lectures. On the other hand, interaction as well as content influenced on negative emotion in online lectures.
Second, as for hypothesis test result of direct, indirect and total effects, content, interaction and environment were found to have indirect effects on perceived achievement and learning satisfaction in multiple mediation of academic emotions(positive and negative emotion).
