This is a descriptive investigation research to analyze the influence factor of nurses’ terminal care attitude. Research subjects were 160 nurses with over 3 months of a clinical career of looking after cancer patients, who work in D cancer center located in Busan; a questionnaire was conducted to them from November 13 to 20, 2017. Research tools were hospice palliative care awareness tool made by Kim[32] and Lee[33], revised and supplemented by Kim[34]; Palliative Care Quiz for Nursing(PCQN) developed by Ross et al [36], adapted by Kim[37], which the investigator for this research, with the help of 2 nursing science professors and 2 hospice palliative care doctors, revised and supplemented to develop a hospice palliative care knowledge tool; Terminal care attitude tool developed by Frommelt[38] translated, revised and supplemented by Cho and Kim[29]. Data analysis were made using SPSS/WIN 22.0 to draw the frequency and percentage, means and standard deviation, independent t-test, One-way ANOVA, Duncan’s post-test, Pearson’s correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The research results are as follows: 1. The awareness of the subjects’ hospice palliative care marked the average of 3.16 points out of 4; by sub-factors, 3.29 in the justice and philosophy field, 3.12 in subjects’ field, 3.23 in service contents field, 2.85 in morality and psychology field, 3.14 in publicity and education needs field. The subjects’ hospice palliative care knowledge marked the average of 12.16 points out of 20; by sub-factors, 7.74 in 13 questions in pain and symptom management field, 2.45 in 4 questions in philosophy and principle field, and 1.97 in 3 questions in psychology and social field. Subjects’ terminal care attitude marked the average of 3.59 points out of 5; by sub-factors, 3.44 in attitude field for the individual, and 4.00 in attitude field for family members. 2. The hospice palliative care awareness by the subjects’ general characteristics showed statistically significant difference by age (F=2.706, p=.047), marital status (t=-2.765, p=.007), final education (F=5.142, p=.007), nurse’s career (F=3.942, p=.010), hospital career (F=4.360, p=.014), hospice (terminal care) education time (F=3.211, p=.043), and hospice palliative care requirement level (t=4.344, p<.001). The hospice palliative care knowledge by the subjects’ general characteristics showed statistically significant difference by age (F=2.900, p=.037), marital status (t=-3.671, p<.001), nurse’s career (F=5.683, p=.001), hospital career (F=5.465, p=.005), hospice (terminal care) education experience (t=3.454, p<.001) and hospice (terminal care) education time (F=7.288, p<.001). Age post-test results did not show a significant difference between groups. The terminal care attitude by the subjects’ general characteristics showed a statistically significant difference by marital status (t=-4.113, p<.001), nurse’s career (F=4.558, p=.004), and hospice palliative care requirement level (t=4.518, p<.001). 3. The hospice palliative care awareness and knowledge have a significant positive correlation (r=.252, p=.001), showing that nurses’ hospice palliative knowledge is deeper when they have more hospice palliative care awareness. The hospice palliative care awareness and terminal care attitude have a significant positive correlation (r=.635, p<.001), showing that nurses’ terminal care attitude is positive when they have more hospice palliative care awareness. The hospice palliative care knowledge and terminal care attitude have a significant positive correlation (r=.314, p<.001), showing that nurses’ terminal care attitude is positive when they have more hospice palliative care knowledge. 4. The influence factors of the subjects’ terminal care attitude were hospice palliative care awareness and knowledge, with 42.2% of explanation power (F=58.933, p<.001). As stated above, nurses had more positive terminal care attitude when they had more awareness and deeper knowledge of hospice palliative care. Therefore, a need for the development of job education for the nurses related to hospice palliative attitude and terminal care is necessary, as well as an education program development to positively improve their hospice palliative care awareness, knowledge, and terminal care attitude.
