As the 4th Industrial Revolution, Internet of Things, and Artificial Intelligence are developed, the way of delivering knowledge and information through books is rapidly changing. The value of books is not as much as before and it is the timed to learn knowledge in other types rather than books. The number of off-line bookstores is swiftly reducing and currently, they are at an ebb in overall. People do not visit off-line bookstores and it has become the age that people could buy books they want without going to off-line bookstores due to the wide range of the internet development. Because of this change, off-line bookstores have faced a certain limit in expanding their life force and Japan has already faced the same situation earlier than Korea. Above all, there is a bookstore that makes surplus profit and it is Tsutaya Bookstore of Culture Convenience Club (CCC) in Japan. Tsutaya Japan is a nationwide brand run by CCC. Currently, they operate about 1,400 bookstores and has been attracted in the whole world by opening DAIKANYAMA T-SITE which suggests the ‘lifestyle platform to consumers.’ This study could induce the marketing strategy and method of Tsutaya T-SITE of Japan. This study induced their three marketing strategies; place strategy that maximized the instancy, lifestyle creation strategy based on the experience, and publicity strengthening strategy. To apply them, there were three executing methods; building of communication through the connection and behavior of things, improvement of customer value through concierge, and ways of realizing the space close to living focusing on the emotion. This study performed a project based on the analysis of them and cases of Tsutaya T-SITE of Japan. Jongro where contained the place and history was chosen for the project. The design method was planned as a space of relative knowledge which a variety of people gathered and information and knowledge were shared rather than a bookstore of simply buying or selling books. Through this, this study was to suggest the space of modern bookstores which suggested the ‘lifestyle platform’ to a variety of consumers while reducing the consumer culture of Jongro where it was changing to an amusement district. It is thought that the proposed bookstore plans through this study are based on the new direction of modern bookstores and the marketing strategy that reflected of it and it will be a meaningful reference for the space design of the modern bookstores in the future.
