The purpose of this study is to examine the media use time of young children and to investigate the relationship between infant media use time, self-regulation, and problem behaviors. The subjects of this study were 82 mothers of 82 children aged 5 and 6 years old and 8 teachers of the children who are attending 6 preschool facilities located in the Seoul area. In order to measure the media use time of young children, we developed our own questionnaire for this study with reference to A Study on Currunt status and protective measures of young children’s exposure to media device(Jeongrim Lee, Namhee Do, Yu Jeong Oh, 2013). This study modified and revised the Self-Control Rating Scale, which was developed by Kendall and Wilcox (1979) to measure the self-regulation of children. Furthermore, this study used the Korean version of the Children's Behavior Rating Scale (C-TRF), which was standardized by Oh Kyung-Ja and Kim Young-A (2010) for Korean children by using the Korean version of Caregiver-Teacher Report Form developed by Achenbach and Rescorla (2000) in order to evaluate problem behaviors by children. The Pearson product moment correlation coefficient and the one-way ANOVA were used to analyze the data. The results of the study are described as follows. First, the average media use time of young children was 3 hours and 54 minutes, and the use time on weekends was longer than that on weekdays. In addition, young children spent more the longer the media exposure time with parents and siblings, than the time they spent on media alone. Second, when the father’s education level was less time spent using young children alone media than in a four-year college or higher, and it was less time to be exposed to the media while being with other people. Additionally, when the mother’s education level with more than in a four-year college were less likely to be exposed to the media while they were with other people than those who did not. Third, the level of attentiveness and impulsivity were lower in the self-regulation of young children. Fourth, the aggressiveness of the children was higher with longer use time of smart devices, and boys had higher scores on emotional reactivity in internalizing problem behaviors, as well as aggressiveness, and problem behaviors in externalizing problem behaviors. In addition, when young children were using smart device by themselves, their attentiveness and aggressiveness were higher in externalizing problem behaviors In conclusion, the media use time of children in this study was 3 hours 54 minutes on average, and the time spent on weekends was longer. The education levels of the father and mother were found as the main variable for the media use time of children. Regarding the problem behaviors of children, the use time of smart devices by children was related to aggressiveness. The attentiveness and aggressiveness level was high when the child used the smart devices alone.
