The purpose of this study is to conduct an in-depth comparative study on the musical composition focused on the editorial and melody of the traditional Korean gayageum byungchang of the masters, Taeseok Oh and Dalyoung Jung. Gayaguem byungchang is a musical field that uses gayageum and singing method, which is singing along a tune while playing the gayageum. It is most common to use the 12-line Sanjo gayageum and pansori singing method. In this traditional gayageum byungchang, Taeseok Oh is a figure who can be considered the root of gayageum byungchang that is passed down today. Since its transmission stopped, he helped its influence to expand again in 1930s. Currently, the genealogy of Taesuk Oh has been passed down in various ways, and research is actively being done. However, there is very little research on the male gayagum byungchang lineage from Taeseok Oh to Dalyoung Jung to Jungryeol Kang. Therefore, in this study, I compared and analyzed the musical composition based on the editorials and the melody of “Juk Jang Mang Hae” among the gayageum byungchang of each master, Taeseok Oh and Dalyoung Jung. . For this purpose, this study investigated the life and art world of Taeseok Oh and Dalyoung Jung. To analyze the personal relationship and musical influence relationship. Based on this analysis, we analyzed the editorial contents of Taeseok Oh and Dalyoung Jung's gayageum byungchang “Juk Jang Mang Hae” separately to conduct editorial comparison. Also, we tried to compare the melody by analyzing the appearance tone, the scale analysis, the cadence form analysis, and the editorial combination analysis. As a result of conducting a study that compares and analyzes musical characteristics focused on editorial and melody of “Juk Jang Mang Hae”, Taeseok Oh and Dalyoung Jung's gayageum byungchang, the following results were obtained. “Juk Jang Mang Hae” is an editorial about finding the scenery of a strong mountains by withdrawing from desires and dressing very simply. Comparing the content of editorial of “Juk Jang Mang Hae”, Taeseok Oh and Dalyoung Jung' did not show a big difference in the overall content between 1st and 8th maru. However, in 9th maru, Dalyoung Jung’s editorial seemed to lengthen the same content, and he added some parts. More specifically, Dalyoung Jung mentions the preceding scholars’ study in the 9th maru and finishes by emphasizing enjoying life while talking about the meaninglessness of time. On the other hand, in terms of melody, Taeseok Oh sang with woo mode and pyeong mode, and Dalyoung Jung sang with pyeong mode and put Gaemeon mode in the interlude to give some change, showing the difference of their tone and speed. More specifically, Taeseok Oh had high tone, and his melody was more monotonous compared to Dalyoung Jung’s. On the other hand, Dalyoung Jung’s melody was very vibrant, and he showed the movement of the melody that ends with main sound or sub-sound according to the ending of the editorial without ending to main sound or sub-sound by breathing long breaths. In addition, Taeseok Oh did not have many or big leaps, was very main sound-centered, and monotonous. On the other hand, Dalyoung Jung had many leaps, and the melody was vibrant. Finally, comparing the combination according to the editorials, in Taeseok Oh’s case, Daemadi Daejangdan appeared 25 times, Milbutchim appeared 9 times, Utbutchim 2 times, and Gyodaejuk 2 times. On the other hand, in Dalyoung Jung’s “Juk Jang Mang Hae,” Daemadi Daejangdan appeared 35 times, Milbutchim appeared 11 times, Utbutchim 1 time, and Wanja gulee 5 times. This indicates that there is a significant difference between the two. Investigating Dalyoung Jung’s musical world through musical comparison focused on the editorial and melody of Taeseok Oh and Dalyoung Jung’s gayageum byungchang “Juk Jang Mang Hae,” I hope that this research will be significant in correctly passing on the significant stem of male gayageum byungchang which can die out.
