Architecture has evolved with human history and architecture is an indispensable living environment in people's lives. However, while the architecture of the past is designed to match the natural characteristics of the area, the architecture of modern society is designed without consideration for culture and location, and only for human needs. In addition, rapid industrialization and urbanization have led to the destruction of the coexistence of nature and human beings. Therefore, the need for sustainable development is increasing and the importance of environmental education is growing to help students develop the right ecological values and environmental sensitivity at the school site. In the fifth - to sixth grade art textbook under the revised curriculum in 2009, environment education is being conducted to students under the theme of “environmental art". However, there are practical limitations to the educational field, as it consists of activities that create a sense of nature by visiting a space composed of only natural environments. Therefore, for a more practical, realistic, and concrete environment education, an ecological architecture activity, an activity that incorporates the buildings and environment education that students encounter everyday in real life, is necessary. As part of the sustainable design, the principles and methods of ecological architecture are presented as a philosophy. In this study, the principles of ecological architecture presented by various scholars are presented as 7 things : respect for nature, respect for people, respect for location, respect for life cycle, respect for energy and natural resources, respect for process, and visualization of nature. However, considering the difficulty of the terms and contents of each principle and the possibility of application in the actual class, The activities were carried out by presenting the principles of ecological architecture to students in six ways : site consideration, nature imitation, use of new renewable energy, resource savings, natural materials, and buildings as a nature. Teaching plan of ecological architecture was developed with nine lessons with nine morning times to introduce ecological building. This plan is applied to one class with 16 students. The results were analyzed based on quantitative data using environmental sensitivity questionnaires, and qualitative data using class observations, student interviews, and students' review. The results of this study are as follows. First, through ecological architecture activities, students can understand the need for ecological architecture and design ecological architectural models. Students were able to realize the necessity of ecological architecture by learning about the problems of architecture and the concepts of ecological architecture, Also, in the process of designing the ecological architecture, expectations for the ecological architecture were raised. Second, ecological building activities have a positive effect on improving students' environmental sensitivity. The quantitative analysis of classes using ecological architecture activities showed statistically significant differences in all five components of environmental sensitivity. In addition, qualitative analysis results showed that students felt closer about the ecological architecture and environment, and improved their awareness of the environment than before applying the classes. Third, convergent thinking was improved through ecological building activities. Students were shown to combine knowledge of various subjects in the process of conducting ecological architecture activities and suggested more creative solutions to problems in the process of integrating different knowledge. This study was contemplated to enhance environmental sensitivity through ecological architecture activities. However, research on ecological building activities is still insufficient, so it is necessary to study them in more detail. Moreover, efforts to organize training programs to enable teachers to apply ecological architecture activities to the field, is needed, and there should be a more realistic and specific study of ways to enhance environmental sensitivity through art classes.
