According to the report on “Index of death quality” in the world released by EIU(Economist Intelligence Unit), the organ under the supervision of Economist, weekly economic magazine of UK in 2015, UK is found to be the 1st-ranked country where people may pass away most comfortably. Korea was reported to be ranked at the 18th place. Ranked at the 6th place, Taiwan is the most advanced country in Asian countries in relation to “quality of death.” The common point of UK and Taiwan is that death education is provided to all generations in long-term with national campaign such as “Find your 1%” in UK and “Announcing the truth” in Taiwan. The reason why death quality in Korea is lower than that of other countries is that most patients at the end of their lives are not treated with palliative care, but with medical care for life prolongation, they are less prepared through conversation on death and they are less educated on the process of death. To improve death quality, education on death should be provided to citizens in advance. The purpose of this study is to analyze & verify the contents on 『Necessity of & demand for death preparation education』 in order to improve 『life quality』 through death preparation education and to practice 『human death』 by self-determining right of death. Thus, recognition on the fear of death, difference in the demand for death preparation education, degree of recognition on the necessity of death preparation education depending on whether participating in death preparation education, reason why death preparation education is not so briskly activated and the influence that participation in death preparation education has on 『life quality』 are investigated for each socio-demographic property in order to be utilized as basic data for death preparation education in the future. For study, literature review, checking the data & literature on the preceding death preparation education, questionnaire and experts’ opinion are reflected. For subject of study, company employees and residents in Gwanak-gu, residents in Gaepo 1-dong Gangnam-gu, employees of KORAIL working in Seoul Station, residents who are educated in Changdong old men’s welfare center located in Dobong-gu and Nowon General Welfare Hall in Nowon-gu. The collected data was statistically processed with statistical quantity like frequency, average, standard deviation, t-test & one-way ANOVA by using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science) and the outcome of study is summarized as follows. First, the factors which present significant difference in the recognition on fear of death out of socio-demographic properties are found to be age, economic level, health state & whether suffering disease. The factors which present significant difference in the demand for death preparation education are age, occupation, economic level, health state & whether suffering disease. Second, it is found that participation in death preparation education affects the necessity of death preparation education. Third, it is found that death preparation education is not briskly activated due to lack of recognition in death preparation education. Fourth, it is found that life quality is affected by participation in death preparation education. As seen in the above outcome of study, life-long death preparation education should be implemented for all nations to correctly understand death, to positively convert recognition and to realize preciousness of life and human dignity. Like European countries and Japan, the education should be incorporated into a part of public education in near future.
