Teaching tools for child speech language pathology are not toys but media for treatment. Child treatment effects are varied and children’s interest are changed according to teaching tools used for treatment. So, selection of proper teaching tools that can cause children’s interest enough to increase curability is child speech language pathologists’ concern. For this study, I researched reality of usage of teaching tools by ages, careers, and treatment areas of child speech language pathologists, and looked into differences in usage of teaching tools. First, in relation with use of teaching tools by careers and treatment areas of child speech language pathologists, it was checked that child speech language pathologists with higher career used a variety of teaching tools in all areas excluding a phoneme area. Moreover, it was also checked that the child speech language pathologists with higher career used the same teaching tool in various areas. Second, in relation with use of teaching tools by ages and treatment areas of the child speech language pathologists, some teaching tools showed differences in treatment areas but some teaching tools did not show differences in treatment areas, and it was not that child speech language pathologists with higher age used a variety of teaching tools and it was not that child speech language pathologists with lower career did not use various teaching tools. Third, in relation with use of teaching tools by ages of target children, children aged zero to two years old mainly used sound drums, touch development tools, and transportation means, and children aged three to four years old mainly used transportation means, role play tools, and dolls. Children aged five to six years old mainly used role play tools, transportation means, and cards, and children aged seven years old or more mainly used board games, cards, fairy tale books, and teaching tools made by therapists. Target children with higher age used teaching tools which have low activity and require advanced language skills. Fourth, picture cards or photos among speech language pathology teaching materials and teaching tools were used the most (84.5%). In relation with the highest response rate in selection and purchase of teaching tools, 50.5% of the child speech language pathologists responded that they selected and purchased by themselves, 86.4% of the child speech language pathologists responded that they purchased teaching tools over the internet, and 60.2% of the child speech language pathologists responded that they purchased from time to time as the need arises. In relation with use purpose of teaching tools, 68.9% of the respondents responded that they used teaching tools for promotion of interaction, 59.2% of the respondents responded that they used them for pragmatic promotion, and 51.4% of the respondents responded that they used them for enhancement of meaning. Furthermore, in relation with use time of teaching tools, 33.0% of the respondents responded that they used teaching tools the whole time. This study was to research reality of usage of teaching tools by ages, careers, and treatment areas of child speech language pathologists, look into differences in usage of teaching tools, and form the basis for improvement in general quality of speech language pathology. Therefore, the study suggests that it is necessary to make various researches and studies on use of teaching tools with interest in teaching tools, based on the results of the reality of usage of teaching tools used by child speech language pathologists.
