The number of subfertile women has recently increased due to various reasons such as late marriage, low birth rate, increased stress level, long-term contraception damaging the hormonal balance, inadequate diet, environmental pollution, etc. Subfertility has a significant effect on the overall aspects of women's life and can undermine the quality of life. Under these circumstances, it is suggested that intervention to improve the quality of life is necessary to ease various difficulties for subfertile women, but there is a lack of research from diverse perspectives to study relevant factors for the level of stress experienced by women with subfertility and their lives. With the aim of giving the strategy of effective intervention in terms of quality of life to women with the stress of subfertility, this study verified the adjusted mediating effect of family support by dealing with stress in the relation between the stress of subfertility experienced by women and their quality of life. Based on the empirical research, this study aims to suggest implications in providing basic materials for developing family therapy, counseling approaches and programs to enhance the quality of life among subfertile women. To achieve the purpose of research, a survey was conducted from September 26 to October 13, 2019 for women with subfertility in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do Province. A total of 360 women agreed to participate in the research; among them, 365 copies of their responses were used in actual research. Research tools included the criteria of the stress of subfertility, quality of life, dealing with stress and family support. The collected data were analyzed by using SPSS 25.0 Program and SPSS PROCESS Macro. The results of this study are as follows: first, verifying the correlations of the stress of subfertility, dealing with stress, family support and quality of life among subfertile women showed a significant negative correlation between the quality of life and stress of subfertility and a significant positive correlation between dealing with stress and family support. Second, according to the verification of mediating effect for dealing with stress in the relation between the stress of subfertility and quality of life, it was found that dealing with stress actively mediates a relation between the stress of subfertility and quality of life. Third, in terms of the moderating effect of family support perceived in the relation between dealing with stress actively and quality of life, the perceived family support indicated the mediating effect in the relation between dealing with stress actively and quality of life. Fourth, examining the adjusted mediating effect of family support by dealing with stress in the relation between the stress of subfertility and quality of life showed that the adjusted mediating effect was found in the perceived family support. Based on these results, this study suggests the significance of clinical intervention and recommendation on follow-up research. By verifying the adjusted mediating effect in the relation between the stress of subfertility and quality of life through family support as the resource of a family and dealing with stress as an individual resource, this study has significance in suggesting comprehensive intervention measures for the variables of dealing with stress as the resource of an individual subfertile woman and family support as the resource of a family. In addition, the variables verified in this study can be utilized in developing counseling and education programs for enhancing the quality of life of subfertile women.
