(Reapeated Measures ...

Music has an auxiliary purpose of making exercise more enjoyable, but it is also known to influence the exercise performance. However, what effects music has on various physical fitness factors have not been clearly revealed. This study aimed to objectively investigate and discuss the effects of music listening and music tempo on physical fitness test results in adults in their 20s with the most active exercise performance ability. In order to analyze the effects of the presence or absence of music listening and music speed (non-listening, fast music: 120∼140 BPM, slow music: 70∼90 BPM) on physical fitness factors in adults in their 20’s, physical fitness tests were repeatedly performed a total of three times for three situations (non-listening, fast music listening, slow music listening) at weekly intervals. Data were analyzed using Repeated Measures ANOVA, and the results are as follows. First, the results of measuring muscle strength, flexibility, agility, and muscle endurance according to music listening or non-listening and music tempo showed that there was no significant difference. Second, the results of measuring whole body endurance (1600m running) according to music listening or non-listening and music tempo showed that there were significant differences in whole body endurance between non-listening and fast music listening, and between non-listening and slow music. There was also a significant difference in whole body endurance between fast music listening and slow music listening. Third, the results of measuring the rate of perceived exertion (RPE) according to musing listening or non-listening and music tempo showed that there was no significant difference in RPE between non-listening and fast music listening, but there was a significant difference in RPE between non-listening and slow music listening, and there was also a significant difference between fast music listening and slow music listening. Therefore, the effects of music listening were not obtained during short-term exercise. And during prolonged exercise such as whole body endurance exercise, fast music listening was found to have more positive effects on exercise performance ability, and slow music listening was found to reduce fatigue.
