The purpose of this study is to develop the school music counseling program using percussion improvisation for improving the resilience of adolescents with school maladjustment. For program development, research was conducted based on program model planning, program model composition, program final model and manual composition, and program application and evaluation procedures. In the program model planning phase, 155 master's and doctorate thesis papers and 123 academic papers were conducted to establish the theoretical framework of the program. Two professional counselors and one music therapist were interviewed in depth to determine the basic questions of the program's demand survey. The survey on demands for program development was conducted on 21 professional counselors, 24 music therapists, and 94 adolescents. Through this, the purpose and operation method of the school music counseling program was derived, and the elements of the school music counseling program were selected in consideration of the preference survey of adolescents(percussion improvisation activities, percussion types, percussion playing methods, components of rhythm). According to the results of a demand survey on components, rhythm layering games(19.1%) were preferred for percussion improvisation activities, performing(18.8%) were preferred, followed by self-esteem improvement(21.2%) and relationship formation(15.2%). As an essential component of the program manual, it was found that they prefer activities using improvisation of percussion instruments such as percussion ensembles and drum circle games(34.4%). A survey on the requirements for how to operate the program showed that gender was mixed group(69.6%), participating grade was in first grade(35.5%), and participating number was less than 10 or less, or 11-15 people were equal(35.5%). Operating period was preferred to be conducted once a week(42%) and the number of operations was 4 to 8(40.6%), the operation time per session was 40 to 60 minutes(46.4%) and the operation time type was subject class time(29.8%). Based on the results of the demand survey analysis, the program stage was organized into the introduction, main activity, and final stage, and a preliminary model of a school music counseling program using percussion improvisation. Delphi survey was conducted three times to verify the adequacy and validity of the configuration contents of the program preliminary model. To this end, 12 school counseling experts and 11 music therapy experts were selected as a panel to conduct a Delphi survey. The Delphi questionnaire was modified and produced by one professor of counseling, one professor of music therapy, and two doctoral researchers based on the Delphi survey results for each order. As a result of the consultation process of experts in two fields in the Delphi survey, a total of 65 final items were derived, including 10 activities, 6 goals, 28 detailed goals, and 21 main activities of the school music counseling program. The final model of the school music counseling program using percussion improvisation was confirmed based on the procedure for each session, instructions, the theoretical basis of the activity, and the order of the program sessions. Afterwards, the program manual was finally modified through preliminary research. To verify the effectiveness of the finally developed program, 10 experimental groups for 1st to 3rd graders of N middle schools in Incheon area and 10 control groups for 1st to 3rd graders of D middle school in Seoul were composed. From September 28 to October 23, 2020, the program was applied over a total of 10 sessions, 4 times a week and 50 minutes per session. Changes in interpersonal relationship ability, problem solving ability, self-regulation ability, and academic competence, which are sub-factors of resilience perceived by school maladjusted adolescents, were quantitatively analyzed, and a qualitative analysis was conducted to supplement the limitations of quantitative analysis. As an analysis method, first, a frequency analysis was conducted to find out the demographic background and general characteristics of the study subject, and second, the Mann-Whitney U test was conducted to verify the preliminary homogeneity of the experimental group and the control group. Third, the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test was conducted to find out the difference in pre-post resilience between the experimental group and the control group. Fourth, the contents were analyzed based on the experience report and in-depth interview data for the experimental group to help understand the program effectiveness. The main results of the program effectiveness verification are as follows. First, it was found that the school music counseling program using percussion improvisation has a positive effect on improving the resilience of school maladjusted adolescents. Second, the school music counseling program using percussion improvisation showed significant changes in the improvement of interpersonal relationship ability, problem solving ability, and self-regulation ability, the sub-factors of resilience of school maladjusted adolescents. However, there was no statistically significant difference in academic competence. Third, through qualitative analysis, specific changes in the sub-factors of resilience could be identified. In terms of interpersonal ability, adolescents showed‘positive perceptions and attitude changes toward peer relationships’, and‘improvement of initiative and responsibility through musical community experiences’was confirmed. In the problem-solving ability factor, adolescents showed improved‘task performance ability through coordination of tension and stress’, and the process of‘achievement experience and positive self-awareness’through‘social support according to the role of a counselor(music therapist)’. Showed. In the factor of self-regulation, adolescents showed a‘tolerant attitude to mistakes’and ‘overcome the psychological burden of new experiences’. Among the sub-factors of resilience, there was no positive change in academic competence, but it was found that school maladjusted adolescents had no difference in academic stress and achievement burden from other peers. As described above, it was confirmed that the school music counseling program using percussion improvisation has a positive effect on improving the resilience of school maladjusted adolescents. In particular, as it shows meaningful changes in the improvement of interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, and self-regulation skills, it is of value to be utilized as a group counseling program at school. In addition, from the planning stage for program development, the contents of the school's music counseling program reflect the needs and needs of adolescents and school field experts, and to meet the purpose and goal of group counseling that improvised percussion performance is to improve resilience. It is meaningful to have composed. The school music counseling program and manual using percussion improvisation to improving the resilience of adolescents with school maladjustment developed by this systematic procedure serves as a guide for communicating and cooperating with professional counselors and music therapists. It is expected that helping the program to be operated will help strengthen the role of school counseling for positive change and growth of adolescents with school maladjustment.
